  1. This is the first time i've logged on here for a good while, I mostly came on to find out about the ddp Jake Roberts/Scott Hall thing as a mate was telling me about it last night. but having found this thread it's brought back a hell of a lot of memories of me, my brother, my mate adam and my brother's friend who drove us up to Blackburn and then back to Tamworth in Staffordshire.

This was the first time i'd traveled outside of the midlands for a wrestling show, with my parents a bit reluctant about it as i'd had only been a couple of years since i'd been seriously ill, and was (and still am thought my health is a million times better) on a lot of medication, but with my brother his friend and my best mate going they were happy i'd be ok.

I can't remember what time we left to go up to Blackburn, though I can remember listening to System Of A Down and Limp Bizkit on the way, I can also remember that the weather wasn't great, either raining or snowing.

We got up to Blackburn and found somewhere near the venue to park up, got to the venue to see what was happening, took a wander into Blackburn to get some food, then went back to the venue for the fan fest, which was pretty good, got to meet Jake Roberts, as well as all the czw guys. The police checking the weapons fans have brought with them sticks out too, as does drinking with the czw whilst they played pool in the pub (which I think was after the first delay for the ring to turn up)

Eventually we got in the venue, got our seats, and waited, and waited, you had all the stuff with the tables in the space where the ring should be, and everything else than went on before it was eventually announced that it wasn't going to happen. The atmosphere in the room was like something i'd not experienced outside of a villa blues game, it really felt toxic, with people baying for blood. We were determined we would get our money back that night (we'd been burned by the wrestlexpress in coventry fiasco), having been said that only if you'd bought your tickets from the venue that they could refund you. We were waiting around with a group of around 6/8 others who like us had traveled a fair distance to be there, and eventually we got chatting to Jon Farrer's uncle or dad, who had come down to the venue to try and help when he'd heard what had gone on. He asked us how much our tickets had cost, and said to give him 10 minutes or so, which seemed like forever, but he came back with a wedge of cash (out of his own pocket I assume) and gave us four, and the others with us the money for our tickets back.

I can't believe it's been ten years since this all happened, i've still got the programme in the depths of my cupboard signed by most of the wrestlers involved with the show, maybe one day it will be worth something!

  2. I found out about this last night, I can't believe it, over the last year I havnt really watched wrestling, but recently have been starting to read whats happening in the wwe and elsewhere, and found out that mike awesome had died and sherri martel, whick was a shock, but is nothing compared to hearing about Chris Benoits death. He was one of my favourite wrestlers of all time, from his work in Japan, ECW, WCW and WWE, he was someone I looked up to as giving professional wrestling something to look up to, someone who showed that it could be about the athleticism, the art of pro wrestling. And the way he died too, or what information has been given so far, strange, very strange. I hope he's safe in heaven with his family, and with his best friend Eddie Guerrero, god bless themRIP Chris

  3. Anyone ever have Yokozuna? I always wanted that one

I did, but he broke really easy after he did a bansai drop of the turnbuckle (can't remember exactly, though he may have lost either his arms or his mid-rift), then took him back to argos, who eren't selling him anymore and got a replacement figure (which was Bam Bam Bigelow!)
Yeah my yokozuna broke as well, and I bought him from argos too, coincidence I don't think so! There is always a few stalls at the memorabilia show at the nec selling old wrestling figures, next one is on the 2nd and 3rd of april I think, will be going to hopefully pick some more ecw figures up.
  4. I still have a load of figures up in my loft but around 5 years ago my dad somehow managed to talk me into letting someone have my blue ring, a selection of figures and my jake the snake roberts cuddly toy(I reckon he drugged me) I wish i'd never let them go now :cry::(

  5. This whole production levels comment is such a grey area, it could be taken a number of ways.As a Promoter myself, I don't want pyro, a ramp, big letters up on the stage or six Americans getting the bums on seats. I promote a Scottish promotion, for Scottish fans and as an outlet for Scottish workers and "the best of the rest" around the UK to work and entertain the crowds we get. I'm not looking to run some sort of fantasy fed, where booking ability is overtaken by the fact 4 or 6 names are being brought in for absolutely no reason other than to get bums on seats.Looking at the bigger picture though, it's pretty obvious that the FWA are bigger and will remain so. In London, they have more possible fans than in the whole of Scotland. Even other major English Cities don't have the same pulling power on a prolonged basis. All I'm really looking at, or for, is a nice little 30 - 60 minute UK Scene magazine programme. TWC would take in tapes, even give their views on what production should be like and decide what to use...let's say they take 2 whole matches a week. Now, alongside that is a 5 minute segment giving who is running a show and where for that week. Something like this really shouldn't frighten the FWA and really shouldn't be a problem for TWC to show, indeed I'd think that they'd see it as a major part of their policy. Let's say that for the 2 shows TWC chose a match from, the shows both had crowds around the 200 mark. Well, that's 400 people maybe wanting to watch the show, watching TWC for more wrestling and everyone becomes a winner. The fact maybe 2,000 more Scots know SCW exists doesn't mean 2,000 more Scots will come and watch. In the same way that everyone in Torquay knowing there's a home match on Saturday doesn't mean that everyone in Torquay will go to the match. This is a perfect opportunity to get British wrestling on the whole to progress, it would just be nice to see it being done properly.

this would be a brilliant idea. A magazine style show would allow other promotions in the uk the chance to be seen by fans in the uk if only for a couple of matches. This would also give these promotions the chance to advertise themselves and there shows to the uk wrestling fans which would hopefully help them pull in bigger crowds.
  6. Roh will survive but I think they might need to change the name. I mean the whole idea of honor has been screwed up by feinstein and even with him gone from the company I think it it would still be a bit dodgy to keep the honor part of the name with the ex owner having been caught grooming children on the net.
