Billy Idol’s Christmas Album

I didn’t know of the existence of this and to be quite honest, I’m not sure how to process it. Here he is, having the time of his life while looking like Willem Dafoe cosplaying Spike from Buffy. I thought it was a comedy skit but it isn’t.

Is there anything that’s been around for years that you’d not heard of that troubled you to your very core, or are there any nightmares you have that you wish to unleash upon an unsuspecting forum?

After seeing this I can only assume that it must be the inspiration for Bill Nighy's character in Love Actually.

My girlfriend showed me this not long ago. It's one of those charity singles that came out in the wake of Band Aid. It's quite remarkable.

It's got a couple of heavy hitters (Bonnie Tyler, Cliff, Holly Johnson, a Bee Gee), some lesser lights (Marillion, Hayley Mills, Lofty from Eastenders) but we failed to name quite a large portion. There's one woman who looks like she's going to chin someone, and a Charles Bronson lookalike:

It's an anti-heroin single, and it's some stark lyrics:

"You'll be a slave to that white-powered whore
'til the dragon is slayed"

It's got about 4000 views on youtube, about 400 of those are me and the missus.

It reminded me of those Swedish (I think) TV channel launch vids of We Are The World and another one that I can’t remember. The former I think had Paul McKenna miming and it’s ace.

One I’m sure I saw once and never again was a football related song that had the likes of Beckham, Figo, Zidane and others of the late 90s early 00s miming some song about global love and unity. I don’t mean to sound all UK Kat Von D but I was in a bad place and did a lot of drugs at the time, so I’ve always wondered if I imagined it.

Show's a list of all involved. I do wonder if someone just started that as a joke to see if they could get singers involved for any charity single.

Thanks for that, but not sure it's exhaustive as it doesn't list Holly Johnson. Or Charles Bronson. I didn't clock Genesis P Orridge in the video either, and I'm a bit surprised they'd be involved.

Watching it made me wonder how Chris Morris has never pulled something like this off.

Tony Thaxton from Motion City Soundtrack does a great podcast called Bizarre Albums all about these kind of records. They're only short episodes but there's some stuff I never knew was made and makes very interesting listening.
