Bit out there this one but Diaz would be an excellent edition to the new Bare Knuckle MMA Promotion

Imagine a cut prone Diaz fighting in Bare Knuckle. Crikey. Id be down for a Nate/Tony Ferguson fight if they can agree on a weight class.

Really enjoyable show overall. Moreno had me grinning like Lenny Henry. What a performance and it really feels like they could build a star out of him. Seems a lovely chap, is personable and is always in exciting fights. I know Figgy doesn't have too much of a habit of missing weight but as he gets older that cut must be taking a toll on him. He never got out of the gate here and you can rarely say that about him. Take nothing away from Moreno though. Couldn't be happier for him.

And yeah, that crowd was absolute shite. What a bunch of muppets.

You got a bit of everything with this one, the good and the bad. In a weird way the crowd were both one of the worst things and best things about not just the night, but any UFC card I've ever watched. They were horrendous. Total bottom feeders for the majority of the show. Then they do their part in making that Brandon Moreno win feel like one of the biggest moments of all time. One of the best feel good moments I've witnessed in the sport, which is incredible really when this fight didn't have anyone in it that I was rooting against.

There's no doubt Moreno went away and got even better in the past six months. I also think Figgy wasn't himself here either. Fantastic moment for Moreno and I'm made up for him. Hoping they do it again twice more, sometime down the line.

Adesanya made it look pretty easy against Vettori I thought. Without having to put himself in any real danger, or take many risks, Israel had a clear, decisive win. Good to see him reassert himself after the loss to Jan. HAS to be Whittaker next.

Edwards Vs Diaz provided quite the moment at the end, didn't it? Leon big brothered Nate for 24 minutes. Outclassed him completely. Then Nate had that moment and the world lost their minds. Colby shouldn't be ahead of Edwards, or Wonderboy (should he beat Burns), considering all Colby has done since getting his face smashed by Usman is beat the corpse of Tyron Woodley. Pretty sure Edwards is going to have to go again though, probably against either Burns or Thompson.

Drew Dober Vs Brad Riddell was everything that Maia Vs Muhammad and Anders Vs Stewart weren't. By fuck were they two boring ass fights. Dover and Riddell though would have a hard time being involved in something that wasn't exciting.

Rest In Peace Jamaal Hill's arm. Vomit inducing that was. Referee must have been having a siesta in the middle of that.

Murphy vs Calderwood was alright. Was I the only one who has Calderwood winning though? She lost the second round clearly but I had her winning 1 and 2. Oh well, I guess the silver lining is at least she’s not getting fed to Shevchenko now. Murphy’s surely next. Can’t think who else Shev can defend against at the moment.

I thought Calder wood had won myself or possibly a draw as the tweet ins were claiming a 10-8 round to Murphy

I hope Murphy gets a Title Shot is it me or does she look a lot older then her claimed age?

I’ve seen a fair few calls for Edwards vs Masvidal. Dana seemed to like the idea when asked after the show as well. I get it in that there’s history there. If Diaz had managed to finish Leon at the end there then I’d say Edwards vs Masvidal would be the most logical next fight to make in the world for them both. But it’s like people are forgetting, Leon did actually win on Saturday night. And widely. A fight with Jorge right now makes no sense. He’s on a long winning streak and Jorge is coming off being 50-45ed and then flatlined by Usman in consecutive fights.

I wouldn’t be that surprised if we do see it though. If we’re getting Usman vs Covington 2 next, as all signs seem to be pointing to, then Leon’s either gonna have to wait again (which I can’t see him wanting to do at this point, he’s lost enough time) or take another fight. Because say Wonderboy goes out and puts on a masterclass against Burns at 264, he’ll almost certainly be next in line for the winner of Usman and Colby. The obvious move for Edwards now is to just wait and see how Wonderboy vs Burns plays out. Best case scenario for him is Burns wins and eliminates Wonderboy from the race. In that case, Leon probably gets the winner of Usman vs Covington by the end of this year or early next. As Dana always says, “we’ll see how this thing plays out.”

I think Edwards himself has called for the Masvidal fight and I'd be down with it. The top guys at 170 are all seemingly booked and the last thing Edwards needs is another run on the sidelines waiting. The Masvidal fight straight after beating Nate would get a lot of eyeballs on him again and you'd probably favour him in getting the job done over Jorge whilst boosting his own profile more so.

I see your point. Back-to-back wins over Diaz and Masvidal can’t do any harm, even with both coming off losses. I’d favour him to beat Masvidal as well but it’s a risky one when he’s right on the cusp of the title shot. With the way his luck usually goes, Jorge will probably fucking spark him and cock things right up.

In other news, Jamahal Hill and Paul Craig are getting on better now. Good to see. It was getting a bit ugly in the buildup.

Murphy was a raging knobhead on the Ultimate Fighter. Hopefully Valentina does a number on her.

Dana apparently said over the weekend that Usman vs Covington 2 is still next.

Meh, I would rather see Usman fight Wonderboy or Chimaev next. Usman hasn't fought a striker like Wonderboy before. Whereas a bout between Usman and Chimarv would be fun because of the daft hype that surrounds Chimaev. Obviously, I think Usman smashes both, but at least they would be fresh match-ups

I'm not really interested in Usman rematching Covington or Edwards. I can't see either of them faring any better against Usman that they did the first time round. I am pretty certain Usman beats Edwards up and stops him late once Edwards runs out of gas, and that Usman sparks Covington out again but quicker.

my customary late as fuck thoughts:

* was a bit down on the main event, felt abit like an old Anderson Silva defence when he was in with someone beneath him. The commentary was praising Adesanya to the heavens but i was a bit underwhelmed. I think Izzy just got into a groove and stayed there, outside of the leg kicks he did little real damage to Marvin, the stats kind of reflect that too, the leg kicks were the significant factor here.

Utterly baffled at Marvin thinking he'd won. Even more so when you could tell his corner were practically yelling at hi. that he was losing. Crazy Italian.

* Moreno!! that was just tremendous. I thought if anyone was getting the finish it would be Figgy, but Moreno just put it on him. Just a feel good story from start to finish. Moreno could be abit of an unlikely superstar.

Not sure what happended to Figureido, but he just looked off. Dunno if the weight cut really got to him, or he thought having a full camp would make it easier but he was never at the races.

* Poor Leon Edwards. Highest profile win of his career, and for 90% of it he was perfect, but you gotta feel everyone will just remember that last couple of minutes. Diaz kept his career as a legit challenger alive with a single punch. Crazy how this game works.

Leons sitting in limbo now whilst everything plays out. Personally, id love to see him get the Masvidal fight. Jorge is coming off a bad loss but if Leon wins that (and it'll likely headline  PPV) he should be nailed on for a crack at Usman.

* Feel bad saying it, but i dont care to see Demian Maia fight in the UFC again. He tries hard but if he cant score a takedown he has nothing left in the tank. Fights like he's in slow motion.

* Paul fucking Craig. That was insane. Ive never fully been sold on Craig, but theres very few specialists off their back anymore, but Craigs one of them. Would like to see him get a top 10 guy after that.

This.

I'm really looking forward to Whittaker vs Izzy 2 though.

I’m looking forward to Adesanya vs Whittaker 2 as well. I’d like to see Whittaker avenge the loss. There isn’t really a more likeable guy on the roster these days than Whittaker. He’s got that Shogun vibe where you can tell he’s just a really good, laid back bloke. A golden retriever out of the cage and a Rottweiler in it. Plus Whittaker winning would open up the trilogy, which is probably best for the division too. Adesanya’s burning through contenders at 185.

Figgy’s already talking about 135 so maybe that’s next. I’d be interested to see how he looks up in weight, if his power would carry up etc. Loads of great fights there for him at Bantamweight.

Maia’s been on about having one more fight against Nate Diaz, after Nate spoke highly of him this week. I love Maia but I’ve got zero interest in that at this stage. We barely get Nate in there as it is and there’s so many potentially awesome matchups we still haven’t seen. Maia isn’t one of them. I’d love to see them in a grappling match sometime though. Or Maia vs Nick. Maia would school them but it’d be cool to see. I don’t want to see Maia under MMA rules again really. He did very well with what he had all things considered. But it’s over.

Surely that wouldn’t headline a PPV? It’s a big fight with the grudge match trimmings but it’s not a title fight and they very rarely top a PPV with a non-title fight unless you’re Conor McGregor. It’d probably more likely be co-main to something like Ngannou vs Lewis 2 or the aforementioned Adesanya vs Whittaker 2 or something. They could still have it over 5 rounds if they want, like with this Diaz fight, but I can’t see it headlining its own PPV. I just can’t see Edwards main eventing a PPV unless it’s a title fight. And even then it could play second fiddle to another title fight. I like him but he’s just not that guy.

Yeh, if it happens it'll likely co-headline with a title fight on top, but any fighter who has the ability to draw legit PPV figures could get the nod to headline. Masvidal's stock has definitely fallen but i could see that headline if the schedule falls right for it. Maybe the Nick Diaz return would sit with it as a co-main? no title fight needed.
