What an odd turn of events this Diego Sanchez situation has taken. He’s been released from the UFC now. And this video has been doing the rounds which is just utterly bizarre. It’s Sanchez meeting with the UFC broadcast team, obviously done before he pulled out of the fight. It’s filmed by Stephan Bonnar, and that Joshua Fabia weirdo crashes it and starts banging on about disrespect or unfair treatment or some bollocks. 9 minutes in for the Fabia stuff;

This is the same twat who confronted Matt Serra while he was sat with friends having breakfast one fight week a few months back, starting bleating about disrespect again then as well like he’s Don Corleone or something, and got told to fuck off. Even if he’s got some valid arguments about unfair treatment of Diego (and I don’t doubt it given the UFC’s track record) the way he goes on makes you want to fucking choke him. Best bit of it all for me is seeing Paul Felder gradually losing the will to live;

But yeah, Diego’s gone from the UFC. What a strange ending to that 16 year relationship. Diego seems happy enough about it, tweeting ‘free at last’ or something. No doubt he’ll be getting his head punched in by Jake Paul or in Bare Knuckle soon.

Edit - seems this is an old video from last year as well, from just before the Jake Matthews fight in September, but it’s been put out now. Sure that’s the same fight week as the Serra confrontation so Fabia’s moaning here is all probably linked to that.

Seems like they cut him in a Kurt Angle type 'We don't want you to die on our watch' situation after Sanchez and Fabia refused to answer a few health questions regarding Diego.

Kevin Iole's article has most of it covered.

Wand, that video you posted is mad as fuck. His ranting is like something from an episode of Eastbound & Down. Fair play to Megan Olivi for setting him straight too. It all felt a bit like that moment at the end of a night out, when all you want is for your taxi to arrive so you can go home and eat that dirty calzone you just bought, but some coked-up dickhead is trying to convince you what a great guy he is. it

It's a fascinating insight into what goes on during Fight Week too.

The weird thing is they’ve put that out presumably thinking Fabia comes off well in it. But surely it’s a terrible move putting that video out there right when Diego is entering free agency. It’s not like Diego offers much to a promotion as it is these days, but who’s going to want to do business with him if it means you have to deal with this dickhead? It’s probably put most promoters off if anything.

The sad thing is, looking at it from the outside it really seems like this guy is taking Diego for a mug. Diego’s a grown man and he’s strange in his own way of course, but there’s something not right about this Fabia bloke. You watch that video and, although he pays lip service to it being about fighting for respect for Diego, it’s the fact that he’s not getting enough credit, recognition or acknowledgment that really seems to bother him. It was the same when he strolled up to Serra, he kept going on about Serra not saying his name in some interview or something and it was weird as fuck. That was the week of UFC 253, Diego had a fight that weekend, and this twat’s running around badgering people while they’re eating breakfast because his ego is hurt. Megan Olivi summed it up in that video when she said “this isn’t about you”.

Yeah seems so. What a stable. They’re like the MMA version of The Oddities from WWF.

What’s the deal with this show then? There’s still been no confirmation of the main event, it’s rumoured to be Waterson vs Rodriguez but nothing’s been made official. No word on Cerrone’s new opponent either and they didn’t even mention this card on the Reyes vs Prochazka broadcast the other night. They usually show a graphic of the next show with the main card order and shit. We’re only days out now.

Yeah all signs seem to be pointing that way. I just think it’s odd that the UFC still haven’t confirmed anything just 6 days out. I was sure they’d clear it up on the show on Saturday but nothing.

Yeah and it’s been a right fuck about getting it done, which makes it even more baffling. This was only yesterday...

It was still that up in the air. I’m fine with the actual matchup but I don’t know why they were so hell bent on it being the main event here. There were better options on this card with fighters that have had full training camps and had the proper time to travel and get everything in order for fight week. Yet they insisted on creating a completely new fight and rushing these two to Vegas to headline at the last minute. Why go to all this effort when they could’ve just bumped Magny vs Neal? They wouldn’t normally bother with all that ballache for a Fight Night. The whole thing’s been strange. Oh well, hopefully that’s the last of the disruptions to this card but I’ve got a feeling I’m being overly optimistic. This just feels like one of those cards that’s gonna get absolutely battered by pullouts. And it’s only Tuesday.

not really complaining but its abit weird that they've relegated Magny/Neal down from co-main and replaced it with Cowboy/Morono, when a more fan pleasing fight in Cowboy/Sanchez was only due to be the opener.

This card is weird.
