Paid Members Egg Shen Posted August 9, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted August 9, 2020 the event has happened but im posting this without having seen results, and no one has chimed in yet so... Ive gone Black Beast in the main event, i think something lands and puts Oleynik away but if these ends up on the ground i think Oleynik can make this slow and painful for Lewis. Lewis has the ability to get out of submission attempts with brute strength usually, be interesting to see if he can do it against a guy with freaky grip strength. Bung me on the list who thinks Weidman is completely shot. A few years ago he'd have whiped the floor with Akhmedov but he's just seems a shell of what he was. The oddsmakers having it 50/50 says it all. I bet big money went down on Weidman in name value alone here. Anyways, ill watch it later... Paid Members WeeAl Posted August 9, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted August 9, 2020 What a fun night of fights that was. Lewis and Olenik was exactly what it looked like it was going to be. Slick grappler Vs heavyweight bungalow thrower. Lewis returns to form. What's next for him do we think? Curtis Blaydes? Unless DC And Stipe both retire, then maybe it'll be Ngannou Vs Blaydes for a vacant belt.Ā Really glad to see Weidman get the win here. I saw nothing from him that suggests to me that he can hang with the top of the division anymore, but then that's not really what this fight was about for him. It was just about getting the steering wheel lined up straight again, and he did that. It was good to see that after a bad second round, he responded to the bollocking that Ray Longo gave him in the corner, and knew that any career longevity that he would have left was riding on that last five minutes.Ā The undercard of this was brilliantly entertaining I've got to say. Beneil Dariush looked great after getting hit with a couple of eye pokes. Darren Stewart picked up a very nice submission win. Tim Means Vs Staropoli, Gavin Tucker Vs Justin Jaynes and Kevin Holland Vs Joaquin Buckley are all worth going out of your way to see, both for the fights and the finishes. I really like Holland, and the shots to the body that he ate from Buckley were fierce. What a beautiful straight right to finish it though. Gorgeous.Ā
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted August 9, 2020 Author Paid Members Share Posted August 9, 2020 (edited) Got those top 2 fights completely wrong but I was happy to be wrong on both results and it was anĀ entertaining show pretty much from start to finish. Lewis vs Oleynik was exactly what itĀ said on the tin. Really enjoyed it. Thought Lewis was done for when it hit the ground and especially when Oleynik got on top and started going for the old Coleman vs Severn scarf choke.Ā Lewis did well to survive it. Then Lewis just comes out and clobbers him at the start of the next round. Love it. āI gotta take a shitā š if Lewis posted on here heād be all over that shitting thread in Off Topic.Ā As for whatās next @WeeAl, I can see Lewis maybe facing the winner of the upcoming Overeem vs Sakai fight. Iād love to see him give Greg Hardy a smack though myself. Happy to see Weidman getĀ back in the win column. Skills wise and from a standpoint of the levels these 2 have operated on, Weidman should have been favoured really but I think everyoneās confidence was shot with him. Good to see him come out on top for a change. To be fair, some of the doom and gloom might be a bit harsh anyway. A couple of those losses in that slump,Ā he was winning before getting caught. Think he was winning the Romero fight and maybe the Jacare one as well. It wasnāt like he ever looked really out of place like last legs BJ Penn or something. He was just gettingĀ flattened at the end of back and forth battles. Itās such a harsh sport. This was a nice fight to watch. Good wrestling battle. Exactly the kind of fight Weidman probably needed as a confidence builder. Akhmedov was a bit of a test and it wasnāt an easy fight by anyĀ means but he was the step back Weidman probably couldāve done with having 2 or 3 fights sooner rather than just keep going in with killer after killer. Donāt know whatās next. I just hope they donāt throw him straight back in with another murderer like Hermansson or someone. Iāve seen calls for Weidman vs Silva 3 on Twitter. Iām not that keen,Ā for the reasons I think I covered earlier in the thread. But itās preferable to some of the other options and itās still a big fight that they can hype up easily given the history. Sod it. But right away he was saying āIām coming for the top guysā so... Nice to see Darren Stewart get the quick finish. Liked him since the Julian Marquez fight a few years back. That story about his mate being murdered by his own brother is crazy.Ā Kunitskaya vs Stoliarenko. Yeah. Suppose there had to be one fight that wasnāt much cop. Never got into this. I think it might be a Kunitskaya thing with me. Never got into her fights. In fairness, it was a decent performance and she won handily. Just donāt really enjoy watching her fight.Ā Beneil Dariush did the business. Iāll say it again, this guy deserves more love than he gets. Seems a genuinely properĀ nice guy and heās great to watch in the cage too. He didnāt even look like he could be arsed here and still ended it with the spinning back fist.Ā Thatās 2Ā stunning KOs back-to-back this year now. And Holtzman is usually veryĀ durable. Heād never been finished before this and heās been in a few scraps. Oh and Dariush not bothering to dye his hair is something he should continue. Embrace the grey.Ā Like Al said, the prelims for this were ace. Add another seat for theĀ Kevin Holland fan club. Heās never boring in the cage or on the mic. Thought his comments last week about Trevin Giles dropping out of their fight were a bit silly but I get that he was frustrated at the time. This was a really strong performance though and the finish was beautiful. Iām looking forward to seeingĀ Buckley again as well actually. He lookedĀ dangerous and this was with little prep time. Be interested to see him again after a proper camp.Ā Who the hell put 50p inĀ Andrew Sanchez then? Christ. Must be the new mullet hairdo giving him strength. He fucking battered Turman. Nasty finish.Ā Gavin Tucker vs Justin Jaynes was another really good fight with a nice finish. Tucker looked like one of Canadaās best prospects a whileĀ back but kind of hit a wall. He looked good here though. Heās not as young as people probably think,Ā I forget heās mid 30s myself, and in a division as loaded as 145 heāsĀ going to have to pull his finger out if heās going to make any waves. Looked solid here though. Even if he didĀ nearly came out of his shorts going for that arm triangle in the first round š Means vs Staropoli was as expected. Fun fight. Best Iāve seen Means look in a while. Nasrat Haqparast looked good in his fight as well. And I didnāt see the fight but I saw this picture of Youssef Zalal absolutely loving life in his fight... IāveĀ never looked that happy doing my job.Ā Really nice show top to bottom.Ā Edited August 9, 2020 by wandshogun09
Paid Members ElCece Posted August 9, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted August 9, 2020 Dariush would be my pick for most underrated fighter. Well rounded and puts up a good fight every time. One of my personal favourites.Ā
