Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted April 2, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted April 2, 2020 The title of this thread always makes me think of Vader getting shouted at by HBK.

(Sandman) He could certainly do it a little bit. He turns up and acts snobby in one of Raven's "childhood therapy sessions" of whatever they were. Segment below was even just before Hak. Turns out he did a handful of house shows too and unaired segments at TV with HBK and Vince! This. Right in the middle of the WWF New Generation, with gimmicks and colourful ring gear everywhere, Dick Murdoch turns up in the Royal Rumble. While he looks totally out of place he is, apart from Shawn and Davey Boy, just about the best thing in the Rumble. Nothing can prepare you for his entrance on first watching it, especially as a child. After a hot brawl to the back with agents and referees everywhere, camera stays on the curtain for the next entrant, and then old, fat and knackered looking Murdoch comes out. Hardly any fans seem to know who the old guy is. But almost amazingly he gets himself over in the match, capping it off with one of the greatest eliminations in Rumble history. Paid Members tiger_rick Posted April 2, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted April 2, 2020 There are a bunch in 90s Rumbles, aren't there? Carlos Colon in 1993 when JR calls him a youngster despite him being older than Bob Backlund. Mil Mascaras, Pierroth, Cibernetico and Latin Lover turned up in 1997 because it was in the Alamodome and they were buddying up with AAA but that hadn't been pushed at all. JR nearly laughs when he jumps out. The tit. As mentioned, Murcdoch in 95 and Gilbert, Omori and the Headhunters in 96 are all completely out of place. Rick Martel just turning up in the 95 Rumble feels odd too, as does Greg Valentine the year before. It's not like it's particularly presented as a surprise or anything. They're just there. They had a singles match as well as a tag where it was Kobashi and Misawa vs Stan Hansen and Boss Man. Ludicrous stuff. I remember seeing it on the Komplete Kobashi DVD set in about 2004 and being beyond baffled.

Kaientai, for example, got brought in to work with Taka, but then he joined them, and they had no one to work with. They were just comically tiny jobbers for years until Taka and Funaki started doing the voiceover gimmick. Made weirder for the fact that I'm pretty sure TAKA was only brought in to work with Great Sasuke in the first place, and then Sasuke fucked them off. 13 hours ago, CL Punk said: Wasn't there a Dusty, Golddust and Stardust vs. The Shield match? Goldust & Cody vs. The Shield, with Dusty at ringside. I'm not sure if they intended for Dusty to be in the match and he didn't get cleared, or if that was always the plan. His only WWE matches post-WCW closing were a bullrope match with Orton during the Legend Killer gimmick, and a couple of Spirit Squad matches where he may as well have been Jim Duggan or Sgt. Slaughter, or any of the other interchangeable legends of the mid-00s. They didn't really start putting Dusty on a pedestal until NXT took off. Edited April 2, 2020 by BomberPat

That tag match is just mental, just big Ray legging it around and through a clearly baffled Misawa and Kobashi!
Factotum
Lynn didn't even join the INVASION crew. I vaguely remember a HEAT where he might have faced RVD again and they were acting like he had turned them down. I would love to know why he wasn't in the group. Paid Members LaGoosh Posted April 3, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted April 3, 2020 RVD and Lynn had a match on Heat that live was a back and forth match but when aired on TV they reportedly cut out Lynn's offense so it was an RVD squash.
Paid Members garynysmon Posted April 3, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted April 3, 2020 (edited) Haku's jump to the WWF in late 2000 was pretty strange, was exclusively wrestling on Heat in no time. Quickly got lost in the shuffle when the WCW influx came in after WM. Edited April 3, 2020 by garynysmon
AshC
I actually thought the Squat Team or whatever they were called were a great fit for 1996 WWF, it's a shame they didn't stick around.

Liam O'Rourke
Warrior's WWF return in 96 should probably get a mention as well, actually. He felt like a relic from a different time. It had only been four years, but after a steady diet of Bret, Diesel, Razor and Shawn, seeing him back felt so strange to me.
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted April 4, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted April 4, 2020 Remember when Jeff Jarrett came back from WCW (and Jeff Jarrett in WCW first time round might count too) and did that shoot promo burying WCW and his old WWF gimmick. Then working as an oppo for Taker, dressing as an aztec and being NWA North American Champ was all shit, he suddenly reverted to J-E-DOUBLE-F J-A-DOUBLE-R-E-DOUBLE-T with old horse cock by his side. Utterly out of place amidst all that ATTITUDE.
HobowithaShotgun
Jerry Lynns WWE theme was a fucking banger.
