I think simply defining "racism" as prejudice based on skin colour is far too limiting, and obfuscates some of the more prevalent examples in the modern era.

Given that different races don't actually exist within humans (we are all one race genetically speaking), racism is really prejudice based on social perception of biological and cultural differences between peoples.  It's not just about colour but perceived inherited differences.

Antisemitism is racism - although a religious group Jews are subject to prejudice based on a perceived inherited set of traits.

So too is Islamophobia  - it's the fear of the "other" and the assumption that the worst actions of members of a set of people is inherent.

It's always a real giveaway of a closet  racist "Islamaphobia's not racism" as if they've stumbled on a technicality that absolves their hatred.

Given that - yes, this IS a racist country.  We've always been resistant to immigration even as we've benefited from the economic profits.

What's more worrying is that, although we've always been a conservative country, we've been also resistant to fascism - naturally suspicious of authoritarianism and proud of our democracy.

What I see now is racism blended with nationalism AND a taste for a megalomaniac who will tear down important democratic institutions. That's a new recipe, and a dangerous one.

Yes.

There's a weird hypocrisy about it now though. It's not like in the 80s where racism was accepted, even expected. Nowadays you've got to pretend that you despise racism, even when you're blatantly racist yourself. Like Katie Hopkins can say refugees should be drowned at sea and call for a "Final Solution" towards Muslims but both her, and the people who agree with her, will deny that it's racism. You need some other justification for your bigotry now. I saw a guy on Facebook yesterday claim that the reason he's so focused on Muslim Grooming Gangs, and not other paedophiles, is because "the others know it's wrong!" How warped is that?

The media feeds it too. Stories about hordes of immigrants heading towards the UK to claim ALL the benefits, take ALL the jobs and fuck YOUR sister sells papers and generates social media traffic. That creates division and becomes self-fulfilling. How many terrorist attacks did we have in the UK before all the stories about Muslims being terrorists?

It's getting worse, and it'll get worse when Brexit happens. Boris Johnson isn't going to hold his hands up and go "Sorry guys. This is on me". The blame will be placed squarely on those least able to defend themselves.

Warburtons is trending on twitter at the moment because they've put a Halal sign on their packaging and the absolutley not racists are boycotting them.

Twitter is full of absolute cunts though. It's as though there's some sort of mandatory thing where anyone who's the worst of the worst is required to be active on that platform.

Aye, it's an outlet. For all the fucking racists in the UK.

It's an outlet for all manner of cretins. I don't think Twitter is anywhere close to a reflection on British society as a whole, and as such is best avoided.
