Paid Members tiger_rick Posted October 15, 2019 Paid Members Posted October 15, 2019 Completely forgot that in September 1999 (I think), Triple H did a job, albeit in a casket match, to bloody Mideon and Viscera. It was around the time he lost the WWF title to Vince McMahon. What the fuck were they thinking? No wonder he wasn't getting over till the Steph angle. As soon as I remembered that one, it brought to mind the myriad of jobs they had The Rock do. Most obviously to Mark Henry on PPV in 1998 a month or so before his first World Title run at Survivor Series and to Billy Gunn, of all people, in the run up to SummerSlam 1999. A more positive one, Lesnar putting over Goldberg and so quickly was utterly brilliant but still a complete mindfuck. Think that was part of the appeal. Lesnar putting over Cena in his comeback match? Not so much. What else comes to mind, good or bad?

Grecian Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 I seem to remember Vladimir Kozlov cleanly pinning Undertaker on Smackdown one week, after a fairly bog-standard powerslam. I have no recollection if this ever developed into anything more substantial or if Kozlov just got shunted to WWECW very shortly afterwards.
Paid Members BomberPat Posted October 15, 2019 Paid Members Posted October 15, 2019 It's a little bit of a misnomer to just call it a "house show", as Madison Square Garden shows at the time were still treated as a major event. Other than that, Backlund was only ever a transitional champion, Vince didn't think he'd be a PPV draw, so wanted the belt off him before the next PPV, but because ticket sales were in the toilet, figured that a big title change on an untelevised show would create an "anything can happen" vibe that would encourage more people to attend live shows. That's the version of events I always heard, anyway. Â I seem to remember the story of the Kozlov win was that they were building Kozlov as a potential Wrestlemania challenger for 'Taker, only for them to abruptly shift gears to 'Taker vs. Michaels instead.
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted October 15, 2019 Awards Moderator Posted October 15, 2019 Every job Rey Mysterio did as World Heavyweight Champion. They didn't even try to make him feel like a top guy - for me the real beginning of the 'champions lose all the time' mentality that's dogged them ever since. It almost feels redundant to criticise modern WWE on this topic, but Roman Reigns losing to The Miz before almost immediately having to be put as the man who could beat Brock Lesnar a couple of years ago would, at any other time, be a big one. And just this year, Becky Lynch losing clean to Asuka the night before challenging Ronda Rousey for Mania. By submission too, I think. Even that could have been justified if they'd built up something about Becky having tapped out and how will she cope with submission specialist Ronda followed by Lynch submitting Ronda in the match. None of which happened, of course.Â

Paid Members Jazzy G Posted October 15, 2019 Paid Members Posted October 15, 2019 Not having Goldberg bulldoze his way through Evolution in the Elimination Chamber and instead laying down for Tripper. I know it was during the "reign of terror". Also Booker not kicking out on general principle after Tripper took so long to cover him at Mania 19. I'd have kicked out and told him to give me another one then pin me immediately afterwards.Â
RoryFice Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Ryback losing to Mark Henry clean in the middle at Wrestlemania 29 was perplexing, especially given Ryback was number one contender for the title a couple of weeks later.
TildeGuy~! Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 I’m still annoyed by Sting losing to Triple H at Mania
Magnum Milano Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Ric Flair putting over anyone shouldn't really be a surprise, but doing a clean job to Rico is something else. Â
Snitsky's back acne Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Hulk Hogan laying down for Billy Kidman.

Wasn’t even a few weeks later it was basically the next night when he turned heel on Cena. Awful booking.Â
