Danny Franchettiās Jazzbox
The main show itself was quite good, any wrestlers I didnāt know or not too familiar with, I didnāt come out of the show liking them any better though. Echo the comments for the Rhodes match, but no need for that little hammer/throne spot, looked so crap. The Buyin show wasnāt a great lead in to get any potential buys, after the comments in the tna thread about how Tommy Dreamer can get work there in 2019, it was disheartening to see him be so involved in a lot of what happened in the battle royale. Tamura
I just watched the buy-in show, and I'm not sure if I can cope with another four hours of AEW. You have to admire their well thought out promotional strategy though. In the last few minutes of their show on ITV when they should be pulling out all the stops to convince people to buy the PPV they have a promotional video for Sadie Gibbs. A wrestler who isn't appearing on the PPV...

The crowd seemed to like it, but it went so far over my head it's unbelievable... Ā I think the joke with Orange Cassidy is he used to be Fire Ant from Chikara and most of the indy crowd know this. So he acts really lethathgic and lazy, when in reality he is really fast paced and decent flyer when he wants to be. Ā Its all very indy though and looked rather cringe last night. Well isn't that interesting! OK, I watched it but I didn't watch the pre-show.Ā SCU vs Strong Hearts. I've heard of everyone in SCU that's a start at least. I don't know any of the Japanese lads. This was alright at the start and then just become moves and moves and moves and I didn't care. Poor old JR doesn't sound like he has a clue what's going on. Did I hear right and that finisher is called Best Meltzer Ever? Just fuck off. Should the women's match have been announced as a Triple Threat? Should be a three way dance shouldn't it? Anyway I didn't know any of this lot. Allie's said she's excited three times already and the match hasn't started. Oh I know Awesome Kong, so there is that. The commentary is fucking AWFUL. Kong has spent almost this entire match outside the ring. Probably for the best, she was absolutely miles off the pace. Kylie Rae seemed the best one here, this was a decent match. Another tag match. Is this Chuck Taylor the one who used to scare kids at shows? Oh fuck it's Jack Evans. He still dresses in the dark. This was an awful match. Just loads of moves and just fucking shit. I think Angelico was even worse than Evans tbh. Then the lights go off and some guys are in the ring and nobody knows who they are and why should I care. Japanese 6 woman tag now and I've actually heard of Aja Kong but nobody else. Kong looks like she's eating her lunch on the way to the ring. Hikaru Shida seems nice. Actually, maybe Kong was eating bread out of the bread bin she brought to the ring. Someone's rung the bell too early, Christ almighty. Lots of moves again, blah. The only match I cared about now. Oh Cody. The throne. How small time. And the sledgehammer. Dearie me. A fantastic match though even if the ending felt a bit flat and Cross Rhodes is still a terrible finisher. Jack Whitehall?! presents Bret Hart! What is happening?! What the fuck is Jack Whitehall doing there?! Then there's a bunch of guys out and I don't care what's happening. God I fucking hate The Young Bucks. I don't know who the Lucha Brothers are. Why are they wrestling for another promotion's tag team titles? MOVES then a bit in the middle where it resembled an actual wrestling match and then just loads more fucking MOVES. Hated almost every minute of this, all 709 of them. So it's time for Home Bargains Buddy Murphy vs what appears to be someone who got lost on their way to the Download Festival. This is the first Omega match I've watched since he wrestled a 9 year old girl or whatever. Why was there a fuckingĀ barrel in the ring? This was a good match but it was TOO LONG. Dean Ambrose then came out to the surprise of no-one. So, three good matches and the rest was awful. Absolutely laughable to call this an alternative to WWE or anything for that matter. If you like it, fine. But don't call it what it isn't. It isn't a game changer, it's not going to have WWE shitting themselves. It's just another 2010s wrestling promotion. No more for me, ta. I'm going to watch Tremors 6 now.
Snitsky's back acne
Have to say the crowd was really into the whole show and were nowhere near as dickish as I thought they would be. Ā

Keith Houchen
I was looking for the "Things that embarrass you with non wrestling fans" thread. Ā I had the pre show on and my girlfriend looked up at the point the bloke covered himself in oil, looked at me and said "This is what you watch?". Ā She didn't need to say anything when the one started pulling Tommy Dreamer into his arse. Ā Fuck me, they were moments that I had nothing to say in defence. I remember reading something (think @BomberPatĀ posted it) about the importance of referees in Rumbles. Ā They'd convey the timings for the spots so TV could capture the important bits. Ā I think this was evident in the pre show clusterfuck. Ā When the bloke with no legs was doing the 619, the camera cut away at the point of impact. Speaking of him, there was a great moment when two small guys were going after the fat lad and the commentator said "The two smallest guys in the ring going after the biggest" or words to that effect. Ā They were smaller than the guy who had no legs then? Still, these are things that will hopefully be ironed out for the weekly show, so I'll give that a go, and I guess this event despite being a PPV was more for the audience in the arena and not at home. I imagine it was a phenomenal atmosphere and really shows how much a hot crowd can add to an event.

LCJ
The negatives: - There's definitely room for improvement starting with the production. During the pre show, I think the commentators said they were going to show one thing and then cut to another (can't remember what exactly but it didn't look good).Ā Someone also did a dive to the outside of the ring and the cameraman missed it. I'm not even sure they replayed it either from one of the other angles. As great as it was to see Bret Hart on the show, someone could've at least briefed him on exactly when their next pay per view was taking place (or maybe he should've asked?). There was a little bit of Indy style hokeyness, especially in the Battle Royal. The positives: - Cody v Dustin was awesome. I can't recall either of them being in a better match during their careers (maybe Dustin at Canadian Stampede but he wasn't heavily involved in that one). The emotion, the blade job, the crowd reaction, the sheer hard work put into the match. Was simply brilliant. I had no problem with the Triple H dig during Cody's entrance either. I've never really been a Triple H fan (for several reasons)Ā and I got a feeling that we sawĀ the signs of an actual major promotion war again which is what pro wresting in North America has needed for a very long time. Kenny v Jericho was good. The crowd were into it and for me, the match was exciting. Jon Moxley's entrance was done well and the crowd went crazy. Overall I really enjoyed the show. I think they need to raise their production standards but it's a good talent roster capable of putting on some great matches with entertaining feuds. I hope more big names join the promotion and WWE actually gets the competition it needs.
