That is true, however he does have a fair amount of sway with his write ups. I don't have much to say on the Big Daddy issue one way or the other, but his write up of Kent Walton when he was on the ballot a while back was absolutely piss-poor and misleading. He dismissed him as a part time pornographer, which turned out to mean he was an exec producer on some British sex comedies.

Well, it didn't work because Kent got voted in

"Have a good week....til next week" is a great title is a great title/tag line for a 70s cheeky softcore flick. Old Kent missed a trick there. Back on topic Shirley Crabtree's reputation as a wrestler is based for most people on diminishing returns as Big Daddy in late middle age. Does anyone know how he was regarded as a worker in the pre-tv era as the battling guardsman character?
Paid Members Supremo 6,421 Posted November 25, 2020 Paid Members Report Share Posted November 25, 2020 Catching up on some episodes of Observer Radio, I think the way Meltzer can’t even pick up on Kenny Omega playing subtle heel speaks volumes. “I don’t think he’s playing heel, he’s just playing superstar.” Fucking hell, Dave. Is it any wonder he gravitated towards something as broad and in-your-face as pro-wrestling? And is it any wonder he constantly finds himself struggling with guys working him or feeding him bullshit just to amuse themselves?
The King Of Swing 1,177
Even by his standards that's stunning. The ridiculous entrance intro alone should be enough to get the point.
KingofSports 114
Lower budget version of his New Japan entrance when he was a 'heel', except he wasn't really a heel (unless you're bothered about factions). Just as over, with or without the cleaner gimmick. Having one of the best singles wrestlers in the world, as part of a tag-team, was a dumb idea in the first place. Let him do what he does best, while he still can. I'm with Meltzer on this one. The bloke's just doing what he did in Japan. A less humble version of him maybe, but unless he starts throwing fire paper or using sledgehammers to win matches, I don't see that much heel in him.

Moderators PowerButchi 7,147 Posted November 27, 2020 Moderators Report Share Posted November 27, 2020 Dave retweeted Ash Sarkar. 2020, everyone.
Mr Butternut Squash 456
Was dumfounded by this. Did Orton say something to piss Dave off? I always thought Meltzer was Orton's biggest supporter but out of the blue he spends 15 minutes taking a massive dump on him. Not that I disagree with any of it. Just found it funny it took him a Bray Wyatt match in 2020 to realise how overrated he is.
Paid Members Duke 369 Posted December 8, 2020 Paid Members Report Share Posted December 8, 2020 I just cancelled my observer membership. I may well pick it back up in a few months but for now I just dont want it anymore. Some of that is because I increasingly dont have time to watch more than one wrestling show, so I've picked AEW. The complete balls up of Keith Lee was the final straw where it just made me decide I couldn't be arsed with WWE anymore, as theres no point investing in anything as they just seem to be on a ruining streak. The other half is that I think Dave has gotten worse. Just obstinate, infuriating and increasingly feels out of touch. I love the brush and vinny shows because they're just fun and easy to listen to, but Meltzer is becoming more and more grating with time. Who's got the energy for a 15 minute argument about whether Kenny Omega was turning heel? Not me.
