I mean there are loads of alarm bells ringing with this story but none the less it still sounds like a bunch of juvenile pricks taking advantage of a girl who seemed to be intoxicated. It’s madness really that these types of stories are not more common. In a company full of drug abusing, paranoid pricks it is no surprise that this type of shit still happens. Hard to be surprised though when some of their biggest stars are Hulk ‘don’t get caught being racist’ Hogan, Shawn ‘used to drug and abuse women’ Michaels and Steve ‘beats his wife’ Austin. Snitsky's back acne Posted October 16, 2018 Share Posted October 16, 2018 It's one of those really murky things because in pretty much every shoot interview with Sean Oliver where they do the 'Ho Bag' both male and female wrestlers have not hesitated and gone 'Shelly Martinez? Ho-bag!' yet, knowing the culture at the time and just how sleazy the wrestling business is in general, this whole story is sadly unsurprising and the 'Have you smartened her up yet?' line is certainly one that I can believe was said. All said like it was nothing, though like the model citizens they are he and Calloway left as it was thought due to their size they would be remembered and dragged into the issue. One does wonder how many bribes Vince has had to dish out to stop the roster getting banged up. Like in a lot of male-centric insular environments, a lot of the stories we've all heard in books and shoot interviews are probably made up to pop the boys, or to paint someone else as a sexual deviant, but I have absolutely zero doubt that the industry is crammed full of wrong'uns that have been protected by the top brass forever. Between wrestling having spent much of its existence as a necessarily private, insular world, and the outside world's assumption that wrestling is so insignificant as to not be worth looking into, and that it's obviously full of deviant bullshit merchants, it's basically completely designed to protect talent from the outside world. If anything high profile enough happens to kickstart a "#MeToo of Wrestling", the whole business is fucked. But would it need to be a Rock/Hogan level star, or Vince himself, with a mainstream publicity push behind it, to pick up any traction, and get any degree of justice, closure or even a fair hearing for any of those who have been affected. Even at the height of #MeToo, Randy Orton routinely getting his knob out in a hazing ritual didn't remotely bother the headlines. Hell, just looking at current employees - at a time when you'd think the worst excesses of the past should be behind them, you've got a right rogue's gallery of (at one time or another) alleged sex pests, and that's just the few we know about.
