It was a nickname Hogan coined for him when Show was trying to make it as a boxer. "The Great Wight" being coined by Hogan not being at all problematic these days, of course.

IIRC, the match was supposed to be Hogan vs. Lawler in Memphis, but Hogan and WWE were on the outs at the time, so they pulled Lawler from the card and Wight was a late-in-the-day replacement.
