It’s on my to do list but haven’t had the chance yet. Working in Edinburgh all next week if anyone has any recommendations

Sphinx
Edinburgh had a lot of vegan options when I went there. I had a vegan haggis from a place called Henderson's for the sake of it though I can't remember what was in it. It was decent enough although I've never had normal haggis before. The place was nice and I'd probably go back to try something other than that meal. Keith Houchen
I don't know the whole story (But when has that ever stopped me posting about something, hey?) but Britain First are currently protesting outside a Greggs in Manchester. I really hope it's because someone told them the vegan sausage rolls are also halal. Â EDIT - They were contained outside Greggs, not protesting at Greggs. Â Nothing to see here, As You Were LG x. https://thetab.com/uk/manchester/2019/01/05/40-pro-brexit-protesters-contained-outside-greggs-in-manchester-after-short-march-from-st-peters-square-40246Â Â Second EDIT - This has to be a parody, right? Otto Dem Wanz
The EDL is basically defunct now, and that is a 3.5/10 parody at best. Edited January 5, 2019 by Otto Dem Wanz
Paid Members BomberPat Posted January 8, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted January 8, 2019 My haul from M&S' new vegan range, keen to check their stuff out. The pizza is lovely, but far too small.
Paid Members Bus Surfer Posted January 8, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted January 8, 2019 (edited) Hypothetical question. How do Vegans with food intolerances fair? Gluten is a big sticking point for some, but I'd wager it's a big part of vegan life due to the calorific intake. Likewise, legumes do not agree with some people, but again, I see them frequently mentioned in vegan recipes as a calorie bump. Nightshade vegetables are also issues for some people and no doubt there are fuck tons other foods that do... Lots of fruits like citrus/acidic types too Just wondering if you were a gluten/legume intolerant vegan.. What would your options be outside of fruit/veg.  Edited January 8, 2019 by Silky Kisser

Paid Members Bus Surfer Posted January 8, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted January 8, 2019 (edited) In my quite limited experience, products labelled 'Gluten free' tend to contain a fuck ton more sugar than the norm, which is likely required in the processing because of the lack of gluten. So, it's a bit of a backwards step to me, as I'm trying to eat healthy and lower inflammation in my body without spiking my blood sugar levels out the ass. And yeah, Lentils are legumes, so no go. Edited January 8, 2019 by Silky Kisser

The pizza is lovely, but far too small. Had one of the pizzas last night, it was great but no pizza should be that small and sensible.  A girl who worked for me was Vegan and Glueten intolerant. Was slightly more effort in terms of eating out, but if a restaurant caters to one group they will usually cater to the other as well. Most likely because the person putting the menu together wants to cater to as many demographics as possible. The Las Iguanas vegan menu is pretty much mostly glueten free. (I don’t only hire Vegans, but most of the time they are or end up becoming one. If the boss offers to buy Vegan lunch everyday it’s pretty easy to make the switch)
Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 8, 2019 Paid Members Share Posted January 8, 2019 So I went to Amsterdam with some friends for the weekend and had an awesome time. Beautiful city, great culture, including food. Sure, a lot of the really Dutch stuff is either sweets, like stroopwaffels and butterballs, or Indonesian rijstafel, but they have a lot of foreign and fusion stuff. One of the friends I went with is a vegan, and he really wanted to try out some places he'd heard of, and I was intrigued by them because of some of the stuff that's been posted in this thread. First off, we went to the Vegan Junk Food Bar. They've got a few around the city, it seems. We had burgers, truffle fries, and bitterballs, which are apparently a Dutch savoury made with lots of herbs. All delicious, though (unsurprisingly) quite pricey; Amsterdam's pretty expensive all the way through, we found out. Hadn't had that type of seitan burger before, and the texture was great, flavour was nice and nutty. Those fries, though - gorgeous. Was stuffed by the end of it all. Â On Sunday we went to Terrazen, which does Japanese food - not traditional Japanese vegan food like Zen adherents have, but stuff that's traditionally been made with meat. Again, pricey, but the fries were great (I get the impression that's something the Dutch do well in general, as there were a number of places specialising in chips, including the well-named "Chipsy King"). That main plate is called "Vegan Lust", and has several chunks of vegan-style fried chicken, and vegan bacon. All tasty. Served with veg cooked in a kind of salt, pepper & garlic sauce, rice and salad.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted January 8, 2019 Moderators Share Posted January 8, 2019 (edited) Shout out to chipsy king! Their chili sauce is inedible. Had a nice vegan dish from the canteen at work today as part of their vegan menu. Spinach pastry thing, with a mushroom veloute and diced veggies. Really tasty. So much better than the crappy meat subs they normally do for the vegan and veggie options. Edited January 8, 2019 by Chest Rockwell
