I know it's not a person, but who the heck through this would be a good idea? Makes for some interesting memes...

It's funny, but it clearly doesn't have the same meaning elsewhere as it does in the UK.

There was even a (very decent) hip hop duo called The Nonce.

Imagine if you walked into a record shop here and asked for 'The Nonces' new album. It would take them ages to figure out who you mean.

Think it's quite an old word - fairly sure I read it in a Shakespeare play once. "For the nonce" meant "for the time being", I'm almost certain.

I'm pretty sure they'd just assume you were after the latest R Kelly release.

The Tories are really kicking it to the BBC with the rebranding of the TV License.

Maybe not "outstanding" but I thought it's worth a mention:

My girlfriend's friend got a new puppy a couple of months back. Named her Lily. Their surname in Savage and it was only when taking her to the vets for the first time and seeing it written down that they put two and two together and realised their new dog was called Lily Savage.

Not only that but her husband is called Andy, so to us he's 'Macho Man' Andy Savage.
