Combo Platter Film and Song

Recommended Posts

In recent years Bellbottoms by the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is perfect on the opening scene of Baby Driver. Again it's not written for the film but is as good a fit for the film and opening scene as Lust for Life or Little Green Bag on Reservoir Dogs.

ive read on a Rocky forum and online elsewhere that this was originally written for Rocky 4 but Stallone thought it was a bit soft so Karate Kid 2 snapped it up. Great tune and film and video.

I honestly believe I was too old when I first saw it.

I never liked Goonies as a kid, Flight of the Navigator and Nightmare on Elm Street 3 were where it was at.

Speaking of which..

This is the first song/film combo i can remember. It was also the first film i watched that i was too young for.

These videos all have spoilers for the movies, but:

This Will Destroy You - The Mighty Rio Grande in Room

Pretty much every Elliot Smith song in Good Will Hunting

Walking On Sunshine in High Fidelity

The absolute gold standard of this category came to me earlier. Try and imagine this music without picturing the film, or visualising the film and not hear this music:

^^ Rule is it's supposed to be a song not a piece of music.

I had my ipod on shuffle today and this classic came on

Yeah but. No but. It was written originally as a piece of pop music i.e. to go in the charts.

If ever a song personifies a film, it’s this.  Crude, sleazy and loads of fun.
