There are a lot of people who carry on with things past their prime, but those who haven't lost a step are less common. Case in point: 1 hour ago, Gus Mears said: Very much enjoy old gits in sport still getting it done. In addition to swapping shirts with the son of former team mate Lillan Thuram, 200 year old Gigi Buffon busted out this save for PSG yesterday. Away from the world of sport, the other one that leaps to mind for me is Christopher Plummer. Still doing several films a year, picked up an Academy Award in his 80's and is now pushing 90. For years Hopkins overly defensive style bored fans to tears but the final few years of his career he's re-invented himself as The Alien and fans couldn't help but sit back and admire the fact that between the ages of 45 and 50 years of age the guy was fighting & winning at the very highest level, and he was doing it by using technical savvy and veteran tactics whilst giving up obvious physical advantages just had to be respected It all finally caught up with him at 51 and walking into a bloke named Joe Smith who ended his career pretty emphatically but it was a hell of a run. The return of George Foreman in his relative dotage and becoming (partial) world champion is one of my favourite stories in sport. Hopkins is even more impressive. A good few years ago, it seemed him and Nadal had started to age and the younger Djokovic and Murray were about to take over as the dominant duo in men's tennis. For a while that was the case, and then after a 5 year drought last year he won two grand slams. He followed that up by winning the Australian Open earlier this year, aged 36. Ok, he's not an old duffer in real life terms, but in the modern tennis world he's a granddad. He's also arguably the greatest player AND ambassador the sport has seen. At 37 he's currently ranked 2nd in the world, whilst a broken down Andy Murray is ranked outside the top 300 and Djokovic - despite winning Wimbledon - just scrapes the top 10.
