Briefcase and Grecian have only gone and drawn the FPL Cup final 5-all! Replay next week it is, then. More matches means the deadlock is more likely to be broken. Way back in September Briefcase won 11-7 when they met in the group stages, but I'd rather not use that as a tiebreaker just yet and award him The Double that easily.

I'm still figuring out everybody else's scores for the round. There'll be a proper update on Wednesday night because I've decided all the games in Week 40 will be ones that are due to happen on Sunday, so no new fixtures until first thing Thursday morning.

Between missing that one week and getting the Hereford local derby game we lost instead of the one we won a few days before as my D2D I'm gutted I probably could have won the entire league this year 😂

But thanks Fog Dude as always for arranging and doing all the maths on this. It's much more fun predicting here than it is with my friends.

My pleasure, but let's save the thank yous for one more week. The maths involve me typing 20-25 bits of numerical data into the table per week, and a predetermined formula in an Excel spreadsheet working out the rest. If I get a figure wrong, I'm sure someone on here will pick me up on it! Well done on being top scorer this time anyway, and being the only participant to get more than one scoreline spot on.

Moving on: the results went into the opening post on Monday night. I didn't add in the result of our Cup final because, as noted above, it was a draw. Briefcase and Grecian actually bet the same way on every match, with 8 of 10 scorelines identical as well. The trouble with a straightforward round at this stage of the season is that we have a 38-week long form guide, so 'groupthink' tends to set in. The range between highest and lowest score was a mere 6 points (for those who picked on time). For the final round we'll have some unusual matches and there'll be twice as many as normal, so with any luck the deadlock in both the Cup final will be broken, and there won't be any dodgy business in the title race either from whoever posts second out of Briefcase and MVP RULZ.

As for the remaining bits of housekeeping... not much change in the standings, with just Glenryck moving back below TildeGuy in the race for a podium finish. Briefcase increases his lead back to 9 points, whilst Rory cuts the gap to 16 at the other end. The outcomes almost everyone had correct were wins for Liverpool, Man City, West Ham, Wolves and Chelsea. A brace of home victories in Spain and a pair of 1-1 draws in England caught most players out, whereas the away triumph for Palace (one of many successes on the road for them this term) that confirmed Cardiff's relegation turned out to be more of a mixed bag.

The last card of the season will be up in the original post shortly. *sniff*
