I just don't think the 80's is a cool as everyone makes out. Look at all the starts that are dead now. And I'm not saying it wasn't successful, but we've had this conversation a million times before. The way TV is consumed, the PPV market and audience's attitudes are very different now compared to the attitude era. That doesn't mean just going back to that style of in an attempt to recapture the audience is going to magically make RAW post a 6.0 rating. As for buyrates, yes alot of people bought the PPVs, but alot of people bought The Crazy Frog's single too. Wrestling was one of the things that was 'in' at the time, just because it worked once doesn't mean it will again, just ask TNA. As for the stars of the 80s that are dead, again, the wrestling industry near 30 years ago was completely different to what it is now Southpaw is meant to just be a bit of fun. If you want something that's just a bunch of guys saying "BOOBS! ASS! SLUT, BASTARD!" then that's what the network offers.
Guest
Attitude era is being taken seriously still as used to sell the network content. 80s are a less revered time and work better for the parody style of southpaw
Paid Members BomberPat Posted September 5, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted September 5, 2017 Not to mention that the Attitude Era is a WWE product, while what Southpaw are parodying isn't, so WWE top brass wouldn't be too bothered by it. You can't exactly put out a parody of 1999 WWF while also unironically trotting out The Rock and Stone Cold at 'Mania as the biggest stars in the history of anything.
