The results went into the opening post on Monday evening, with a link to the latest table and the set of 10 for Week 4 following a few hours later. The average score this time out was down to 7.9 points, but that was mainly down to the fact that three-pointers were hard to come by. The only two participants with more than one exact score were also the only ones into double figures, and – unusually this early in proceedings – the only players to move up the standings. A somewhat unlucky ultimo is the sole person to go in the other direction, whilst the gap between the bottom two places remains the same. At the summit, Rory keeps up the pace on early leader TildeGuy as he closes in to just two points behind.

So, what were those crazy outcomes that made exact score guesses few and far between? Well, a seven-goal thriller at Firhill didn't help, then Atlético Madrid scored 5 in Gran Canaria. The following day Arsenal were blown away at Anfield... at least Glenryck correctly foresaw that Liverpool would score 4! Newcastle also won at home more comfortably than anyone thought beforehand, but more standard victories on the road for Orient, Rangers and Barcelona proved more fruitful. Two stalemates in the English top flight ended up catching a lot of pickers out, whereas the Bank Holiday Chesire derby turned out to be more of a mixed bag.

I should warn people, particularly @RoryFice and @ultimo the great who often pick on Friday evening or Saturday morning, that the next round begins on Friday afternoon. If anyone has a problem with that, then they should direct all complaints to Gianni Infantino rather than to me.

The results went into the original post on Sunday night, and the fixtures for this coming weekend and a link to the table will follow in a few minutes. The average score of 9.9 points was actually quite low for an international round. Although most of the matches didn't pose too many problems, some of the scorelines proved troublesome. Rory has overtaken TildeGuy on most exact scores at the summit, whilst further down the standings, nothing at all separates Briefcase from Vegeta, and at the very bottom MVP RULZ and Stinky Dad are surprisingly level on points down there. Top scorer ultimo moves back into the top 4.

Denmark, Nigeria and Spain all won at home more comfortably than expected, which wasn't great for volume of three-pointers this time out. Away victories for Bosnia, England and Northern Ireland were eminently foreseeable, but guessing the correct number of goals cost a lot of participants two extra points here and there as well. In fact, a quarter of goals for the Three Lions arguably turned out to be quite flattering in the end. Poor results for the Irish (being held in Georgia) and T&T (losing at home to Honduras) caught out some optimistic pickers, but a solid win for Scotland and a narrow but crucial one for Wales were more fruitful.

Right, back to normal football next week, but we're only a month away from another international break...
