Me and my friend have had a brainwave. Forget the millions of named candidates- Ancelotti or Enrique, Tuchel or Jardim, Vieira or Arteta, Rodgers or Allegri, Buvac or Faria etc. Wenger is irreplaceable, and no one person can fill that role. So why bother?

Instead, a new manager each week. In the same manner as the weekly guest GM on Raw that time, or the presenter on Have I Got News For You since Angus Deyton got caught with hookers. They can alternate between former players, 'stars' of AFTV, pundits, famous fans, out of work coaches- whoever fancies having a go. Even Bob Barker can step in one week.

I personally am hyped for the Perry Groves week.

I'd look forward to Mike Adamle week, when he refers to the talent of "Mesut Oval".

Tell you what, though - Paul Merson week would be... interesting.

Seems odd they might go for Buvac. If you want former Klopp proteges, David Wagner trained under him too, but also has full managerial experience. I know things don't work that way, but given Buvac's lack of full experience, it would be a strange appointment for a club of Arsenal's stature to make.

If that is indeed the route they want to go it'll be similar to how it works at a lot of overseas teams. They'll have a director of football/general manager type guy, probably that recruitment fella from Dortmund taking care of transfers and a head coach taking care of football matters. It's basically the opposite to how it's been for 20 odd years but it'd be impossible to find someone to do everything Arsene does so they probably figure they're best off chopping the role up.

Yep we're already set up for that now. In addition to Sven Mislintat as head of recruitment, Barcelona's director of football Raul Sanllehi joined us officially a couple of months ago after 10 years there. To be honest you have to move to that model because pretty much every up and coming manager is used to the continental model now.

That makes a lot of sense. To be honest, it seems to be the case across many industries - you see it in particular in media production. As companies get bigger and more dedicated to their respective fields, traditional jobs and roles are becoming more diversified into specialised ones. Given the amount of money involved in the business of football, it makes sense that the industry would move in the same direction.

@Frankie CrispThat changes daily at the moment, as soon as there's an inkling somebody might be available. For example, if Jose was caught winking at Steve Bould at Old Trafford on Sunday, he'd have been the bookies favourite that day.Ā

Indeed. SME - subject matters expert - has been the buzzword for several years or so in many industries for this.

Man United had their yearly awards tonight. There is a new category called "Managers Player of the Year." There's a fans and players vote, each going to David De Gea (as usual.) The Manager's player of the year was Scott McTominay. The most Jose Mourinho thing ever! On one hand, it's a lovely thing to do and McTominay will no doubt feel 10 foot tall. But on the other hand ... Scott McTominay?!

Sounds like the modern day equivalent of 'Clubman' of the season in Sunday League.

Which was always won by that lad who turned up every week and played 5 minutes at the end to justify taking his subs.
