Yeah he had an injured rib but Chael still had a style that could trouble him more than most at that time. Hence Chael's dominance in the first round of the rematch.

That's all I'm getting at, that Chael's worst matchups style-wise are guys who can negate his wrestling either with submissions from the bottom or a strong takedown defence forcing Chael to stand. I don't really think Wanderlei has either. His guard has always been good defensively but he's never really been a threat with subs off his back. And his takedown defence is so-so as well. I know it's going back over a decade but Ricardo Arona showed how Wand can be shut down with that game. They went 1-1 but I'm sure I had Arona winning the second fight too. And that was an active Wanderlei, in or close to his prime, with a pick 'n' mix of PEDs at his disposal and no testing.

Also, it's a 3 rounder, right? That also plays into Chael's favour more, IMO. He's only got to play the takedown/stay out of danger game for 15 minutes. I can easily see him taking 2 rounds that way. And that's enough to bag the decision. 3 rounds to me just gives Wandy less time and less opportunities to land the kill shot.

I'm always glass half empty when it comes to my favourites but I've definitely got a bad feeling about this one.

I agree.

It's a real wildcard match-up, but I also slightly favour Chael to win. I would have been certain before the Tito fight. However, even then, Ortiz was the bigger and stronger man. As was Jones. Rashad was smaller than Chael, but held a clear advantage in the grappling stakes (at least on the night) Wanderlei won't have such advantages. His route to victory is much different from those previously mentioned.

Randy Couture has tweeted out that he's willing to step in if either of the main events drop out at Bellator NYC...probably bollocks, but you never know :p

Randy vs Fedor! Randy vs Fedor! I mean, it's 10 years late but...RANDY VS FEDOR!!

Somebody ice up Meathead's staircase, Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone style. Please.

Edit -

Wait, can Randy even do it legally? I could swear when he had that sour split with the UFC that Dana was saying Randy still owed them fights on his contract. Would that maybe be void now because it was signed in the Zuffa era? Fuck knows how it works but maybe there's a loophole.

Seriously, if Randy is legally allowed to fight for Bellator and he's wanting to get back in there, it makes me wonder even more why the fuck they're pushing forward again with this shitty Meathead fight. Why do that when you've got the chance to finally do Fedor vs Randy?

Perhaps there was an expiry date. The owed fights could have been rendered null and void after a specific time.

Whatever the case, I wouldn't mind a bit of Fedor vs Couture. Or Couture vs Sonnen/Wand for that matter. I wouldn't be interested in Couture vs Meathead for the same reasons I am not into Fedor vs Meathead - which I stated above.

I'm not sure Randy and Chael would fight each other given their history going all the way back to the Team Quest days. Chael's always put Randy on a pedestal as 'the man'. Sure he even specifically said he wouldn't fight him because of the respect he has for him.

Randy-Wandy would be fun though. After we were teased with it back in 2004 when they had that face off at a UFC.

I know Randy's 112 now but I'm all for shit like this if they're all fighting each other. I've got no interest in seeing these guys used to boost an up and comers record (although I understand why a promoter would do that). If they can get Chuck back as well and maybe bring Cro Cop in, then there's a lot of fun to be had there.

Fedor vs Randy

Chuck vs Wandy 2

Fedor vs Cro Cop 2

Randy vs Cro Cop

Fedor vs Chuck

Cro Cop vs Chuck

You could have endless fun with that pool of legends. Mix and match Chael with some of them as well.

Where's Rampage? Is he still in Bellator?

Have this lot fight each other, recognisable names and legends in the game, use them to bring the viewers in and showcase your young exciting future stars on the undercards. Coker's sort of doing that already, he knows what's what. But I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him try and bring at least some of those names above in.

And once again, FUCK Meathead. Stick him in there and let Kongo cagehump him again or something. Or let Roy Nelson KO him again. That's always a good time.

Anyone want a laugh? Here's Chael Sonnen proclaiming Matt Mitrione, and I quote, "the greatest heavyweight of this time"...

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GmzZc0ejWuA

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Somewhere in a lab, the USADA testers just sat up and decided Chael is due a visit. He's got to be on some good shit, hasn't he? I know he's a shill for whatever company he's working for but that shit is just madness. Meathead isn't even the greatest heavyweight in Bellator today, much less the greatest in the sport at any time.

His argument is flimsier than a pornstar's pissflaps after Lex Steele's been through them. He cites Mitrione's win over Derrick Lewis to back his case, but you need to look no further than Bellator's very own shallow pool of heavyweights to find TWO men who have clear and decisive wins over Meathead. They are Roy Nelson and Cheick Kongo.

Chael's logic has more holes in it than a fucking sieve.

Chael still shills all kinds of pro UFC company/Dana points of view all the time, I think in the hope of being re-employed. His fucking awful fight picking is legendary. Theres all kinds of videos out there of him making terrible fight picks. Which isn't a crime but Chael likes to say shit like if Nate Diaz fought Conor a hundred times he would win all hundred, Conor has zero chance in a million years if he thinks he can KO Eddie Alverez etc.

He is like one of those slick talking US ESPN guys where he has the accent and style that makes it sound like he is on point but so much of what he says is clickbait, "please make this a news story on your site" total BS. He can be good on his podcast but most often your left thinking WTF with him.

there's a few fighters who do podcasts/analysis who are terrible at making fight picks. It's not so much that they are bad, but they just clearly don't know alot about the fighters they are talking about but they are in a position where they need to make picks and sound like they know. Bas Rutten, Brendan Schuab & Chael are all names that pop to mind.

There are exceptions, Brian Stann and Dan Hardy for example, they clearly do their homework before they give their opinion.

Rampage is still with Bellator but I believe he wants out. I think he's still sore over their original legal battle.

What is wrong with that guy? He goes to Bellator and bitches about wanting to go back to the UFC, finally gets what he wants after a load of legal wrangling, fights in the UFC and bitches again, gets out and goes back to Bellator, and he's at it again.

Has he even fought in Bellator yet?

I don't think that's what happened Carbomb. He bitched in the UFC before his initial contract ran up, and then went to Bellator. He never bitched in Bellator until Bjorn Rebney failed to deliver his end of the contract. The UFC looked over the situation and both Rampage and the UFC felt that they had a good case of Bellator breaching their contract and thus nullifying it. He fought the one time in the UFC in his second stint, but was forced back to Bellator after a judge ruled in favour of Bellator and he's now fighting out the remaining fights on his deal. He didn't say anything bad when he briefly returned to the UFC as far as I'm aware.

Fair enough. Doesn't seem so bad, I guess. If I'm being honest, I was probably being harsh because I can't stand Rampage anyway, so was probably just looking for another reason to slag him off.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, he's one moaning fucker and I don't have much time for him myself these days. But in this instance, he hasn't been too bad.
