Paid Members Gus Mears Posted January 20, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 20, 2017 The man who has been Tango'd is about to hit the Oval Office. All of us will be killed and the values we care about will be eviscerated and cast into the ether for eternity.  On that note, what do we have to look forward to and be hopeful about? Either personal or societal stuff will do.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted January 20, 2017 Moderators Share Posted January 20, 2017 I feel bad for people in the US, but we've got our own political shitshow going on here to worry about that's causing me a lot more immediate concern. Â Either way though, I bought a lotto ticket on a whim when buying some gum and I'm pretty sure it's going to be the big one. Â Failing that, we've got new seasons of good American tv to look forward to.
Paid Members Gus Mears Posted January 20, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 20, 2017 Yeah, the domestic situation is abysmal too. Working in politics/policy, there is almost never a day when I don't go home feeling completely crushed at the moment. Wall-to-wall news of the values I believe in being trampled on.  POSITIVITY!I  I'm moving back to Bath in a couple of weeks. It's my favourite city of earth and I'm unbelievably excited. Joining the cricket club, starting Russian lessons again, becoming part of philosophical reading society and getting back involved with local politics (used to work for the MP there). I live slap-bang central too, so a minute from the theatre and shit loads of great fooderies. I work best when I have 25 hours worth of stuff to do and moving means I can thrown myself into shit-loads of new stuff.  On current affairs. The arc of history bends towards progress and things will improve. I don't know when, I don't know exactly how, but they will. On a somewhat less lofty note, every political career ends in failure and I already have preemptive schadenfreude about seeing the collapse of far too many people currently involved in the UK political system.  PAN-EUROPEAN DRINKING TOUR AT THE END OF THE MONTH. Grecian
Gus, welcome back! Bath is still lovely, the Schwartz burgers are still the food of God himself and there are loads of new restaurants too! Â As for me, I should be starting driving lessons in the coming weeks, I got paid today, and it's the Rumble in just over a week!
mikehoncho
Looking around, I'm finding that a "benefit" of the US changeover is lower flight costs to Tampa at Easter.  As low as £294 with Air France from Manchester, & other main airlines are coming in lower than last year. Looking forward to sampling a few of the newer restaurants though. Menu Gordon Jones is top of my list post-pay day.  Good luck learning to drive in there! Must be a right fucker.  I just bought Somerset CCC membership. I hope to while away most of the summer weekends in a haze of cider and Marcus Trescothick scoring centuries.

Sonny Mustang
I was in a pretty horrific car accident over Christmas and miraculously walked away with only minor injuries (fractures)- so I'm feeling pretty hopeful. Â Sounds sappy, but trying to make every day a good one and making a difference doing more volunteer work etc. Â Watching the US inauguration as I write this, so maybe it's pointless...but we can but try! stevieg1980
Still hoping with all the political nonsense of the last year brings some good satire in Veep and hopefully might lead to the return of The Thick of It. One can dream.
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted January 20, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 20, 2017 What's to satirize? They skip forward in time till when Jonah gets popular enough that he starts to toy with a run for President on the back of inflammatory rhetoric?
