Paid Members Bellenda Carlisle Posted January 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 15, 2017 Never really heard of any of the guys on this but I really enjoyed the show, I'm blown away by what a bastard Pete Dunn looks, he was my fave immediately and I hope he wins the thing. GPW Kristian Zane
I thought it was decent enough, with a bit of this and that, without ever excelling. Â I really appreciated the guys who put themselves forward as something different to the pack, such as Tyson T-Bone and Pete Dunne, and I feel I made the right choice to get tickets for tomorrow rather than today. Seems like some good matches. Also even before attending tomorrow I've got the live wrestling bug again. Think I'm gonna go GPW Back With A Bang next month. Â Pretty enjoyable. Guest
The post show videos of regal going after Pete Dunne, and the injured guy getting carried past triple h and ignoring him as he is so hurt, both proper good little videos. The way Dunne keeps backing away from Regal, can see him at least trying to get a sneak attack punch on Regal at some point. it's getting much more of a story to it than I expected, and it's being done very believably. Paid Members PunkStep Posted January 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 15, 2017 Really enjoyed that, and you know tonight is going to be even better as much like CWC, the first round is more about showcasing the guys involved. I think we'll get some superb matches tonight. Â My thoughts from the first night: Â -The Empress Ballroom looked bloody incredible, absolutely perfect backdrop for the tournament. Whoever said it came across as more of a nod to the old British wrestling than WOS was dead right. Â -Trent Seven was alright, but I clearly need to see more to get the hype. Dyer was pretty good. Â -Devlin gradually showing he is a heel was decent and I also really liked the finish, Maggle and McGuinness did really well to cover it and give a bit of legitimate controversy to the finish, bit like a poor ref decision in football. Danny Burch was outstanding, he's improved immensely as a performer. Â -Gradwell was ok, can't remember much about his opponent. Roy Better Know was fine, impressive to hear that he's only been around for 2 years. Pete Dunne, as expected, was brilliant. Love his style, love his demeanour and love his expressions. Â -Connors and Drake had a match, wasn't into it much. Wolfgang and T-Bone was decent, this was the match I was looking forward to the most. They were going for a Brad Pitt in Snatch-cum-Tyson Fury schtick with T-Bone and I thought it came across well. Didn't mid him wrestling in kecks and a vest, stood out a bit from the others. Â -I forgot how much I loved Mandrews from when I watched TNA Boot Camp, he's a load of fun to watch. So fluid and likeable. Very good performance from him, I hope him and Dunne meet in the semis- given how well they know each other that could be the match of the tourney. Â -Best match was easily the main event. Tyler Bate, good grief- what a revelation. As someone else mentioned, how someone that young can 'get it' THAT much is unbelievable. So much charisma, he kept my interest throughout. This kid is going to be a star. Hadn't heard of Tucker, but he more than held his own- very impressive. Excellent match. Â -My god, how good is Michael Cole when he doesn't have a PPV to shill or a bigger feud on Raw to talk about instead? He was really good. McGuinness was also good too, thought they were a decent combo. Â -The crowd were...absolutely fine. More than fine, they were brilliant and they added to the show. I expected the worst but they really weren't in 'get ourselves over' mode. Even the Jesus stuff was fine (stop being a miserable bollocks all your life, FelatioLips!). Â -Agree with whoever said there was too much plain black attire though- needed more of a splash of colour. This is one thing WOS wasn't short of overall. Â All in all- impressive night and I can't wait for tonight's show.
Guest
Rewwatching the show now before I head south for tonight, just wanted to add the commentary team are really good together. Cole had a few blunders about uk promotions, but seemed to know more naturally about the wrestlers than jr did on wos. Nigel got plenty opportunities to talk too, and they meshed really well for me. MungoChutney
I really enjoyed what I saw but only watched up to the Wolfgang match. I've been watching him on shows for 12 years and having dealt with him for an appearance a couple of years ago I found him to be a really humble guy. Well deserving of this spot and hopefully shut up a few of the critics he has. Â Agree on the look and commentary, both excellent and a perfect fit for the show. I don't watch any weekly wrestling shown with regularity but I'd watch an hour a week of this no bother.
Ambulance Chaser
My main points from this show were how good the commentary was, Nigel was toned down from the "HE'S OUTTTTTT" for every single move in ROH. And Michael Cole, tremendous work, sounded enthused and like he actually wanted to be there, as though he was free of Vince or Kevin Dunn badgering him on the headset and just let loose. Â Also Tyler Bate, i have said before i don't follow the British scene i have only seen Brit guys that float in and out of the US promotions but my first time sering Bate i was very impressed. Also, Mark Andrews....didn't come to the ring in a skateboard and got more over in 6 minutes than years appearing in TNA. Looking forward to tonight. The King Of Swing
On Michael Cole. He was also pretty good on the Japanese Network special when Balor won the NXT Title. Â Sounds a lot more into everything and not just going through his list of talking points. Â Loved them name-dropping everything other than WCPW. tony1234
The afterwards videos of Dunne, HHH & Regal have set tonights show up nicely, looking forward to it.
Guest
Echo the thoughts on the commentary being good. It was funny hearing McGuinness try explain what the word wavy means though
Metallica
Crowd are annoying as hell. Singing songs to entertain themselves really takes away from the match when there's no reaction to the moves being done. Singing about Jesus and now in the match I'm up to, singing about the guy's face on his arse. Really spoils it. They've been singing it for most of the match so far as if they think they're being hilarious.
Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted January 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 15, 2017 Michael Cole got off to the best possible start with his opening line of "Greetings, grapple fans!" Thought that was a tremendous tribute.
Paid Members PunkStep Posted January 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 15, 2017 Loved them name-dropping everything other than WCPW. Why would they namedrop them? They don't have a working relationship with them for this tournament, unlike OTT, ICW and Progress. Did they mention RPW and/or show Quildan in the crowd? I didn't notice. MungoChutney
Was one of the refs Andy Simmonz? Thought he looked like him but maybe a bit taller. Wasn't sure if they'd use UK guys or fly their own over.
Paid Members Statto Posted January 15, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 15, 2017 It was the same ref all night, wasn't it? One of their regulars, flown in.
