Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 5, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 5, 2017 Bit of that, a bit of Nunes being a monster, I imagine. Tate was also quite good at taking punishment, but she couldn't handle the power Nunes was throwing at her face. The past couple of fights hasn't half given me a new appreciation for Cat Zingano's toughness.  Also, Nunes isn't half giving Rousey it tight after the fight. She's quite rightly fuming about the disrespect the UFC showed her with the lack of promotion and is certainly making up for it by shitting on Rousey every few days. I've read a few say she should lay off because it's classless (and it sort of is), but it's getting her name out there and gives the Rousey fans their heel.  Yeah, I guess one could argue that we've now moved from the era of specialist dominance to all-rounder dominance in WMMA, Nunes being one of those. Great on the feet, none too shabby in the subs department either.  I don't think it's classless of Nunes to make that kind of noise; that's what the business is now, class was dropped long ago, if that's what class truly is. McGregor led the way, and Nunes is simply playing by the rules laid down by him and everyone else who cottoned on, which includes Rousey before she closed herself off. It's a little arse-about-face, promoting the fight after it's been fought, but if it generates publicity, popularity, points and... pesos for her in future, fair fucks to her. I'd actually say it's quite smart - I don't think I've ever seen that sort of thing done before. But Nunes deserves it anyway; other than Rousey, she's the only UFC women's BW champ to defend her belt, and she's just obliterated the only other woman to do so. the_mole
McGregor doesn't slag off his past opponents, he'll say what happened and big himself up but that's it. Â If she wants to talk shit, do it about Shevchenko or Pena her next opponents or even the girls at 145.
Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 5, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 5, 2017 Yeah, but as I said, Nunes-Rousey was without precedent in that it got almost no build-up, so it's fair play if she gets to do it afterwards, especially if the decision by management means she got screwed money-wise. One could argue that the trash-talking was simply postponed to after the match. Â I'm sure she'll trash talk the others. Either way, I don't see anything wrong with the Rousey trash-talking - Rousey didn't exactly show her any respect either, with her words or her actions. Shane O' Mac Version 2
McGregor doesn't slag off his past opponents, he'll say what happened and big himself up but that's it. Â If she wants to talk shit, do it about Shevchenko or Pena her next opponents or even the girls at 145. Â The problem with that, is that she might be waiting a while before Shevchenko or Pena become her challenger- medical suspensions and such might mean she's hyping a fight that's over 6 months from now. She fought Rousey less than a week ago, it's fresh in people's minds. Â Plus, talk about Ronda and it's more likely to go mainstream and get picked up by different news outlets. No one outside the MMA bubble cares about Shevchenko or Pena.

Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 10, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 10, 2017 Another thought occurs about the Nunes trolling: she could be angling for a Rousey rematch, to get a slice of some of that cheddar. Not just to build up the idea of the fight, but also to piss off Rousey so much that she might knock the retirement idea on the head just to come back and fight her for one more match. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 10, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 10, 2017 Could be. But I don't really get the impression that Nunes is planning ahead with this or angling for anything. I think it's just a case of her feeling overlooked or a bit disrespected that she was treated as a complete afterthought. And she's taking a bit of pleasure in giving a big 'fuck you' to everyone she feels was involved in that. Including "Honda Housey". Â I'm as big a Rousey fan as there is on here but I like that Nunes is being real about the whole thing. If she feels like she was slighted or whatever why should she sugarcoat it in the name of being 'classy'? Fuck that. The whole build up and promotion of this fight was Ronda this, Ronda that, SHE'S BACK! and all that. I get why and it'd be stupid to argue that Rousey wasn't the star here. It made sense to promote her comeback, especially when she wasn't doing it herself. I wouldn't have expected them not to. But Nunes was there the whole time, it was her first defence and the UFC treated it like she was Jumpin' Joey Maggs on WCW Saturday Night in 1992. It's all well and good Dana saying after the fight "Well, ask people on Monday morning if they know who Amanda Nunes is. I guarantee they will know who she is now" etc etc. But she was the champion and won the title on a milestone event in UFC 200, was the first gay UFC champ, is a fucking beast and far from dull in the cage, she's never lost for words either. Yet they did almost nothing to invest any time in her outside the Countdown. It was like they were expecting Ronda to smash her so it was pointless promoting her. Without Ronda doing media, there wasn't much opportunity for Nunes to either. So now the fight is over, all 48 seconds of it, now Nunes gets to speak and everyone's listening. She's more than earned the right to gob off a bit.

Also, given how much of a wanker Rousey has been overall in the past, strikes me as turnabout and fairplay.

Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted January 16, 2017 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 16, 2017 Yeah I stumbled across that earlier. Who are these idiots who were referring to Amanda Nunes as "cannon fodder" for Ronda Rousey? It certainly makes the whole not bothering to promote Nunes thing make more sense if they really thought that. I said it somewhere earlier in the thread but it really did feel like they were expecting Ronda to just come back and roll over Nunes and pick up where she left off pre-Holm. These guys are in the wrong business if they think they can plan on results in MMA, there are no 'dead certs'.
Cousin Jim Bob
Wasn't the Rousey Holm build up the same ? I seem to remember them not even bothering putting Holm on one video promo and barely covering her in the build up, it was all about Rousey. That was the old owners too. Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted January 16, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted January 16, 2017 Nah, Holm got a bit more hype, but that also had to do with Rousey and Holm getting out there and promoting the show. Really, all the UFC did for this show was Rousey on a couple of talk shows and that great hype video where Nunes is mentioned in the blink of an eye. Â Anyway, it's worth remembering that coming into this one that, while Rousey was indeed the draw, she was the challenger. People forget about it now, because of how the fight went, but when the Holm fight was announced it felt very much like another easy win for Rousey. Most on here (myself included) were very underwhelmed by Holm, at the time, because she looked fairly average before the Rousey fight. Really, there wasn't a great deal to promote in Holm, other than she did a great job at boxing. I mind some felt on here saying it felt like the UFC had to go to the Holm/Rousey fight ASAP before Holm was exposed, because she didn't look up to much, despite her impressive boxing record. Â I think almost everyone was miffed that the UFC did almost nothing to promote their champion and a woman with a very real chance of battering Rousey. If Holm was champion walking into Australia that night we'd have a similar reaction. To not feature your champion at all is hilarious, considering how the fight went down. Nunes made sure it probably won't happen again.
