WWE Clash Of Champions 2016 Discussion *Spoilers*

I would have started a thread a couple of days ago except I had no idea from the TV that the PPV was tonight.

It's actually a decent looking card which should deliver 4, maybe 5 really, really good matches.

TJ Perkins vs. Brian Kendrick (Cruiserweight Title)

It's a pity they've rushed Kendrick into this after his great redemption story on NXT but the subtelty of that isn't something they've been capable of doing on the main shows for a very long time. I'd open with this, should be a hot start for the crowd.

New Day vs. Gallows and Anderson (Tag Titles)

A match I would have been looking forwward to a lot 6 weeks ago but they turned Gallows and Anderson into a hideous comedy act and New Day have run out of steam. The only thing saving this is a title change but they seem to be waiting for New Day to break their all time record.

Charlotte vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks (Womens Title)

This will be great, I think. With a better build, they could have main evented with this. That would have given their "revolution" stuff some real credence.

Cesaro vs. Sheamus (Best of 7 finale)

Best of seven, eh? One of those things that was great in the height of the Monday Night War when Benoit & Booker did it because it as so different and they were excellent workers. Smarks have been fantasy booking them for years since, myself included, and the idea is terrible - particularly now every midcard feud feels like a best of 700 series. This is their 9th match on telly in the last couple of months. I couldn't care less who wins but I think they'll deliver a good match. FF for me though.

Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn

Despite the naff one segment build for this one, it will also be great. Jericho is as good as he's ever been and Sami can bring it. This is the sleeper.

Rusev vs. Reigns (US Title)

Definitely my favourite match on the card. These two can rip it up. I'd go with Rusev winning so Reigns can snap and go heel. But I'm going to say that ever PPV until the end of time.

Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins (Universal Title)

Big spot for these two on top. Can they deliver? I think they probably will. Rollins style will suit being the babyface but in all honesty, this is a babyface match all day long. Whoever wins, the crowd will love it. I can't pick a winner. I'm thinking a schmozz finish is likely here.

They'll likely both get cheered by the "You Deserve It! This is Wrestling!" people, but can anyone remember a pay per view main event where both guys were both so scripted to act like heels? If we took the show on face value, I have absolutely no idea who I'd supposed to be rooting for.

The one who does the most moves without selling?

It'll be a decent PPV, WWEs usually are, struggling to remember the last bad one tbh, all of them this year had at least a couple of decent happenings and cracking matches.

Its what folllows on RAW thatll be the problem, but as a standalone one night show this will be a good watch.

Triple H youd think is bound to be there, get the feeling the main event is going to be a very attitude era style main event

Oddest thing about it is that they've both had a horrible tendency to wrestle like babyfaces for the last few years. You'd think that would stand Seth in good stead, but alas they've gone with this piss-weak wishy-washy effort at making him a good guy, possibly in order to make Roman look better by comparison.

I fear for Perkins and Kendrick because how many of the crowd are gonna know either of them? Was it 2009 they said Kendrick last wrestled for WWE? That's a long time and a lot of new fans to try and convince that he's worth supporting. And given the lack of time they've had, Kendrick's story hasn't got anywhere near over yet on the main roster, while Perkins is a nobody to the majority of fans right now. He hasn't even been on WWE telly. A week before their first brand exclusive pay-per-view to debut the cruiserweights was poor timing in my opinion.

New Day against the Club has dragged on and on. I wonder if the initial plan was to have Balor team back up with them, after they teased the "too sweet" with him at SummerSlam. Have him as World champ while Anderson and Gallows have the Tag belts, over on the other side AJ is World champ to. The Club completely taking over. Whatever the original plan with Balor was has gone. And we've got the Club doing some absolute shit. New Day to retain I reckon. They're gonna let them break Demolition's record, just in time for Roadblock where they'll finally drop the titles to a reunited Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.

Dana to cost Charlotte the Women's Title to Sasha. Tomorrow night, Charlotte berates Dana and demands her rematch. She orders Dana to be a special ref, telling her she knows what to do. Finally Dana turns face and counts Charlotte's shoulders down setting up their match at Hell in a Cell while Bayley challenges Sasha for the Women's title inside the Cell.

Cesaro wins the best of seven series with a sharpshooter. After the match, he's congratulated by a returning Tyson Kidd, nobody really gives a fuck that Kidd has returned because nobody has really noticed that he's been gone anyway. Cesaro is promised a US Title match. (after all that's what he and Sheamus where whinging about, that somebody got a match against Rusev some 40 odd years ago I think when the feud started)

Zayn will beat Jericho. It's Y2J's role now to put over younger talent. That will, unfortunately, end JeriKO as best friends. Kev won't wanna knock around with somebody who can't get past Sami. And that'll lead to a Jericho/Zayn/Owens feud for the Universal Title.

Rusev and Reigns to just slug it out to another no-contest like SummerSlam, forcing Foley and Steph's hand to making them finish their rivalry inside Hell in a Cell, where Rusev will retain and Reigns goes off to join Rollins.

Rollins wins but Owens has his foot on the rope. Steph forces Foley to go out and restart the match. Triple H comes out, pedigrees Rollins and Owens takes the win in the middle of the ring. Foley goes to restart the match but Steph cuts him off. Smirking. Owens and Triple H celebrate.

Before Balor's injury, I'd have thought the plan would be for New Day to beat Gallows and Anderson this month then drop the belts to Jeri-KO next month. But with Big Kev being the big champ, I think you may as well keep New Day tag champs until WrestleMania now and switch to Enzo & Cass in the stadium.

Not a great show. Jericho/Zayn seemed to exist to let people know that 'we're rolling with Owens and Zayn is midcard, so don't expect to see him near the belt' and the main was all about 'Seth is a plucky, battered babyface now, cheer him', compounded by the fact Jericho might as well have been the third participant in the match and Zayn was nowhere to be seen.
