Paid Members lambyUK Posted September 22, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 22, 2016  Mmajunkie reporting that Alvarez missed the contract signing deadline for 205 and the Khabib fight is now set for 206!  Where's that leave Conor for 205?  It's like 200, how have they messed this up again  Who's deadline is that? Surely it's within the control of the UFC. Or are there commission deadlines?   It was 'reported' by Megan Olivi on UFC tonight the deadline was missed, but you're right, it will be at the UFC's discretion. Remember we get last minute replacements etc.  This will be UFC attempting to play games with Mcgregor and using Khabib as a negotiation tool.  Megan Olivi is awful on that show though. She's fine with her backstage interviews but when they had someone as good as Helwani previously doing her role it makes her look bad. It also seems ridiculous having a UFC employee taking on a reporters role for their own news.

jimufctna24
Looks like Conor is rehabbing his leg anyway.  The article goes on to say that sources close to Conor say he could be ready for UFC 205, so there's a bit of hope.  UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is "unlikely" to compete at UFC 205 on Nov. 12 in New York, according to a report from "UFC Tonight." Wednesday's report stated McGregor is "rehabbing a leg injury."  http://www.espn.com/mma/story/_/id/17607374/dana-white-tells-ufc-tonight-injured-conor-mcgregor-unlikely-fight-ufc-
Paid Members lambyUK Posted September 22, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 22, 2016 I wouldn't believe anything from UFC Tonight Jim, They are employees of the UFC as mentioned.Furthermore mmafighting have come out saying regardless of what they said, Mcgregor is healthy and ready to fight. Basically from the sounds of it Helwani contacted Mcgregor's coach John Kavanagh to get the truth. jimufctna24
Hmmmm.  I can't be bothered trying to figure out why the UFC reported that.
Paid Members lambyUK Posted September 22, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 22, 2016 Hmmmm.  I can't be bothered trying to figure out why the UFC reported that.  So they have a story in the mainstream media why they end up not booking Mcgregor for New York. Blame it on his health, and not them unwilling to match his financial expectations.
jimufctna24
That's probably the case.  The downside is that ESPN (a mainstream outlet) already have the counter story out, and side by side with the official story. It makes them look bad. Although, I'm not sure what the alternative approach could be to this problem. As previously stated. McGregor's drawing power is in another league at the moment.
Paid Members Supremo Posted September 22, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 22, 2016 I wonder if Eddie Alvarez will take inspiration from Nate Diaz and stall until they let him fight Conor. It's certainly what I'd do.
Paid Members WeeAl Posted September 22, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 22, 2016 He's got way too much to lose if he doesn't stall for that fight. He's got a sniff of the gravy train now and nobody could blame him for holding out for a night against McGregor.

Paid Members Supremo Posted September 23, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 23, 2016 They're both good fights. Â This show still needs a big main event though. Â They better get begging.
METAL ON METAL
You've all probably seen that UFC claimed McGregor's leg was injured on UFC Tonight and that he wouldn't be fit for UFC 205. Trying to avoid backlash from themselves for not getting the Alvarez fight done. Â Well, now John Kavanagh has posted a video on Instagram of a SBG training session with a certain healthy Notorious one sparring in the background. Great intentional FU to UFC. David
We'll just need to see how the likes of Ari Emanuel and Patrick Whitesell take to the peasants revolting against them.  I'm not too sure about Whitesell, but Emanuel seems like a bit of a cunt from what I've read. Interesting times ahead.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted September 24, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted September 24, 2016 I totally get what McGregor's doing, it's actually refreshing to see an MMA fighter squeeze as much as he can out of a promoter. It's what a fighter in McGregor's position should do. Contract negotiations aren't even about what you're worth, they're about what you can get for yourself. And McGregor's played that game very well so far. Â But... Â Purely from a selfish fan POV, I'm really getting sick of it all. It's not McGregor's fault. It's not even the UFC's fault. I get the game that's going on here between the two sides. But fuck me, it seems like every time McGregor's going to fight now we're going to go through this and it's getting tiresome already. You don't know when you can start getting excited about McGregor's fights any more because you just know there's some dispute lurking around the corner to delay the fight longer. Â There's not even an answer to this, I know. The UFC will concede to a point but, as we saw with the UFC 200 mess, they're only going to do that to a point. They're not just going to keep bending over and taking it up the Gary Glitter dry from McGregor. And McGregor isn't going to stop pushing for more and more. And nor should he. Not while he's got the kind of power he has right now. He'd be mad to just fall in line and accept whatever he's given. He's responsible for a good 3 or 4 of the top selling PPVs in UFC history, he's huge in America, he's big in Europe, he's exciting to watch. He brings a ton to the table. So this battle of cat and mouse is going to crop up before every single McGregor fight from here on in. It's good for McGregor and good for the sport as a whole in the long run because it might help other fighters find their bollocks a bit when it comes to negotiating better deals for themselves down the line. Â The shit thing is, we could end up missing out on some great fights because of it. Like McGregor vs Alvarez. I stayed fairly quiet about that fight when the reports came out because I had a feeling something was probably going to cockblock it from happening. Now Khabib is probably going to beat Alvarez and we'll probably not see McGregor vs Alvarez at all. Or if we do, it won't be for the lightweight title so loses some of its sparkle and the intrigue of McGregor going for the 2 weight champ thing. So McGregor vs Alvarez is probably going to end up being one that got away. And it probably won't be the last McGregor fight that falls apart due to the power struggle between him and the UFC top bollocks. I've got a feeling the new owners are going to play rough as well, to be honest. They're not going to want to come in and instantly be walked all over by McGregor. I can see them trying to reign him in to send a message who's in charge. And McGregor's not going to go for that so this could go on and on. And McGregor's played that game very well so far.  Has he played the game very well so far though? He managed to blow the big UFC 200 fight with Nate, which I think would have been even bigger than the fight later on down the line, and his appearance on the big New York show is hanging by a thread by the looks of it.  You're right, he does have the right to negotiate for what he deems himself to be worth, no question. His tactics are pure amateur though.  He constantly bangs on about being an astute businessman, yet he shows none of the nous or savvy that such a person would have. He's too quick to jump on to Twitter in order to post shite that is only intended to irk the very people he's supposed to be negotiating with.  He seems to approach these situations as though it's a fucking battle rather than a negotiation between two parties who are interested in making as much money as possible.  As I've said before, he's like the cunt from the housing estate who won the lottery. He can spend money on the right clothes, drive the right cars, live in the right house, but he's still a bit of a berk when it comes to common sense. His manager/coach isn't much better.  It's infuriating.
