Michael_3165
Who do YOU think will be the next flag-bearer of the WWE moving into the 2020s. John Cena isn't getting any younger and his body surely isn't what it once was. Although his work has improved since his return, Orton isn't exactly a new face either. So which performer do you think has the skills to move up into that headline bracket and take the WWE to (hopefully) new heights in 2020s. Seth Rollins? Roman Reigns? AJ Styles? Owens? Zayn? Balor?  I am talking about the person to take the reigns with Cena retires. Orion, Cena, Triple H, Lesnar et al aren't going to last forever. Who is the person who will put butts in the seats and sell the merchandise?  I am not a pessimist but good lord it doesn't look good.
King Pitcos
They've got loads of great candidates for the Punk/Orton type roles supporting the main guy, but nobody that can step in JC's shoes easily. Â Reigns is probably the closest, but he's not the talker Cena is, he's not got as marketable a look, and they've already Lugered him a few times. Â AJ Styles is the same age as Cena, pretty terrible look. Great matches and really good mic work, but he's only going to play to the hardcores and the people already watching. He'll never be a Cena. Â Rollins has a decent look and is a good wrestler, probably going to be better as a babyface than he is as a heel. But again, no Cena. Â Ambrose is charismatic and can put on a great match, but he's quite inconsistent and he looks shit. He wears the same outfit as Luke Harper. Â Zayn doesn't look to have it on the main roster. Doesn't look good but talks well, wrestles well, is quite convincing at everything. But that's not enough. You could see him winning a world title, even at a WrestleMania, with a "waah waah he's buried, push him" type drive... But he's not the guy who you'd have as the world champion at the next three WrestleManias after that. Â Owens is a superb talker and has great matches. Fat bloke who looks like a fan. Could only see him being a babyface world champion at WrestleMania in the same conditions as Zayn above though. Â Bray Wyatt, at best, will be positioned like the Undertaker was in the 90s. Â Finn Balor is great fodder for endless t-shirts and toys, but because of the connotations, the "demon" stuff will never click with kids and parents like Cena and Mysterio did. Jackpot
It really depends on what direction the company is going as a whole rather than just one man to carry the load. Â This John Cena wouldn't have made it as big as he has in the Attitude Era because his gimmick wouldn't have been accepted, Austin wouldn't have been pushed as hard now because flipping the bird, drinking beer and being a general arsehole isn't what they're after. neil is brill
I honestly think the next Hogan/Cena level star isn't even employed by WWE yet. I'm also not entirely convinced that a star of this level will ever be found again. Â The perfect superstar could fall into Vince's lap overnight, but if it gets out that he's chosen by Vince, the fans will boo because he isn't skinny, pleather clad and doesn't do moves that include flips, kicks and flippy kicks. hallicks
They need to get over this fixation of having "the" guy who's going to carry the company for X years. Their obsession with Reigns has hamstrung them for the last two years, in terms of their ability to create new stars. They should have pulled the trigger with him against Brock and saw if the rub was enough to get him to the next level, or ditched the plan there and then. Instead we've been in a Reigns-based purgatory for ages whilst opportunities to elevate other guys have been sacrificed.
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted August 7, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted August 7, 2016 They won't because they've always had a "guy" or actively sought one. That's been their business for 50 years.
