UFC bans Helwani

Think it depends how much of a cunt Dana truly is, none of us know him on a personal level at all, so for all we know who could set up a meeting with Helwani to iron out a ton of stuff, make amends dependent on whether this episode indicates to him, Lorenzo etc that they can't go treating MMA media like this if they want to be deemed as a professional sports organisation.

I doubt it, he seems like a bit of a control-freak to me, but who knows.

You miss my point, lamby. I don't disagree he's on the shit list still (two posts above mention future consequences for Helwani being more low-key). My point was the way Helwani went about yesterday, while obviously not doing Zuffa any favours, was exactly the way he should have went about it and he had no choice. I highlighted that line because the details he mentioned were exactly what they should have been. If the situation was truly beyond repair he'd still be banned - all Helwani wanted was his credentials back for him and his colleagues and he got it.

After all, prior to a few hours ago, Dana was saying Helwani was never getting his credentials back so long as he's running things, but Helwani created such a shit storm that they had to. Again, masterful.

The most annoying thing is that the comments about things getting physical (and the underlying implications that threats have been made) will probably get lost in all this and thats probably the scummiest moment in all of this. I can't help but think all this could have been avoided if he had let GAD break the stories and they buried him in the desert or something.

In all honesty I never missed your point. The situation being beyond repair really is something completely different to how Helwani went about his business yesterday. I agree with what you're saying though Bollocks, what he did yesterday is exactly how he should have handled it and he did indeed get what he wanted.

Phew, that was close.

Just as an aside, did anyone notice in the post presser for 199 that Dave Sholler claimed to know nothing about the Brock announcement until it happened, either?

Joe Rogan's reaction was weird too on the PPV, he's bound to have known though.

On his latest podcast, he says he didn't have a fucking clue and thought it was a mistake.

has anyone got a clip of him finding out?, or even tell me when it aired during the PPV? I've been through my BT recording a couple of times and just can't find it..

its crazy how the MMA community has rallied behind Ariel, just shows how much respect the guy has.

on the flipside, can you imagine if the UFC banned GAD from future UFC events?

There'd probably be a Kickstarter campaign to have him put on that Mars colony mission that is scheduled to never come back.

GAD wasn't at UFC 199 I'm sure we would have heard him, Beyond the octagon has become his own version of Countdown shows, except it's just him talking about a fighters winning streak.

Simon Head was the main British guy mostly talking to or about Bisping, is he one in the Lil's boys or whatever they were called that used to be on that wrestling show on talk sports with Alex Shane & Tommy Boyd about 15 years ago?

The whole BT thing's a bit interesting, GAD's got a show on Talksport 2 now, I don't know if that schedule has meant he couldn't make 199, but Caroline Pearce who often co-presents BTO was definitely at the event, but no coverage officially from her as a BT representative which is unusual, they normally send GAD/Pearce out to the majority of the PPV events..

Not sure on Simon, but I did see something on Twitter that The Sun sent him out there last minute. He never gets any big scoops, even for stuff over here, he had that article on the UK TV deal being wrapped up and done within '3-4 weeks' about a month and a bit a go, nothing yet.

Joe Rogan reveals some details and gives a different perpsective to the "he's only doing his job" view of the initial ban

Interesting perspective. But the issue should still be with whoever is leaking info and not the journalist.

I agree with Rogan.

It's essentially 2 competing interests, that of the journalist and that of the private company.

They have every reason to feel aggrieved, and have every right to respond how they wish. But, obviously, they need to accept that that might bring a shitstorm of negative press. Caving so quickly basically signals they hadn't thought about it, and just lashed out.
