McGregor McRetires? No. But let's talk about him anyway.

True (it's why it's being considered specialist v specialist), but Khabib takes down everyone anyway. Even Barboza who has supposedly incredible TK defence was ran through. However he always gets there early doors by charging you against the fence. There are openings if he does.

Obviously different levels and that, but Alvarez had the game plan to wrestle but he found it hard to set anything up because Conor was a ninja that night.

You can make the point that Khabib has never faced a striker like Conor, one who is so explosive and clinical.

Obviously I consider Khabib favourite, but it's still very possible Conor shocks the world again.

Thing is, if McG was facing Nurm at a later stage in his career, I might say he'd have a chance because by this point, presumably Nurm will have lost a fair bit of his chin, granite or not, by sticking to his plan of eating shots until he got the takedown. As it is, he hasn't been in trouble much if at all yet, let alone beaten, so it's difficult to not only fathom how much damage he's taken, but also what the route to beating him actually is. Conor has been beaten, and the way there has been laid out for people to see.

Another thing that amuses me somewhat is this common belief that Khabib just marches forward like a goon, taking shots in order to land a takedown.

That's simply not true.

How many times has he been cleanly clipped? There's a reason why the MMA fanbase literally lost its shit when Michael Johnson landed somewhat clean on him and looked as though he'd actually caught his attention for a few seconds.

I think that Khabib's overwhelming ability to secure the takedown and batter the living shit out of his opponents on the ground has somewhat overshadowed how good he has to be to actually avoid being picked off on the way in.

That's just wrong. Khabib even said after his last fight that the way he fights right now leaves him open to shots.

You don't notice because he just charges through because he's hard.

Hard or not, if he just "charged through" he'd have been caught and dropped at some point in his career. He doesn't have a chin made of steel.

The way he fights does leave him open to shots, in the same way as the way McG fights leaves him open to gassing like a bastard. It doesn't mean Khabib just charges in though, he's not a mug.

Well, it was always going to happen I guess, although it had went quiet for a while.

Perfect timing, eh?

UFC fighter Michael Chiesa filed a lawsuit against Conor McGregor stemming from McGregor's attack on a bus carrying fellow fighters at UFC 223 media day, TMZ Sports reported Monday.

Chiesa had to be pulled from the UFC 223 card after suffering cuts to his face during the attack. According to TMZ Sports, he's also claiming "severe emotional distress, mental trauma and/or bodily harm" as part of his suit.

Chiesa also included Barclays Center in his lawsuit, alleging the venue didn't do enough to ensure the safety of its patron.

It's unclear how much Chiesa is seeking financially from the suit.

New York police arrested McGregor on multiple charges, including two counts of assault and one count of attempted assault. He reached a plea deal with prosecutors in July, pleading guilty to a count of disorderly conduct.

Chiesa wasn't the only fighter hurt during the attack. Ray Borg shared a doctor's note and explained the nature of his injuries.

Ariel Helwani reported for MMA Fighting in April that McGregor was in negotiations with the UFC about his return to the company prior to his attack. In August, the two parties finally reached an agreement that will see McGregor fight Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on Oct. 6 in Las Vegas.

It will be McGregor's first bout in the UFC since defeating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November 2016.

You have to figure that if Mullet Mike is coming for some of that green, one or two more won't be far behind. And I don't see them having much of a problem in winning their claims, it's as open and closed as it gets.

I still stand by my belief that McG will be bankrupt by the time he's 40. This is the beginning of that.

Anyone else heard about Rose apparently not wanting to leave her house and suchlike after the incident too? She's been diagnosed with PTSD or something?

Man, if she appears in court, looking how she looks, McG doesn't have a fucking chance.

I've also heard a few whispers that these impending court cases are the reason Conor is taking this fight with Khabib. Would make sense really, as he doesn't seem to be relishing it in the same way as he has his previous fights. Looks like he's getting in, doing the bare minimum, and getting out with cash in the bank?

If this is trolling, good work.

This was always happening. You can imagine Chiesa going on a 5 week moonshine party the second he realised how much money he'd make off of this.

I'm pleased Conor is getting something resembling a decent comeuppance out of all that. Losing a few million of your hard earned money will sting, no doubt.

Trolling fuck all, you think McG is approaching this fight like his previous bouts? Where's the master of mental warfare? Where's the expensive suits? The cutting edge bantz and racially and culturally dubious insults?

There's been not a peep from him since this fight was announced. In fact, aside from a shit poster being released and a few generic promos by the UFC you'd be hard-pressed to even know this was happening.

Is it not "red panty" night anymore?

I can't imagine that, even if those lawsuits are successful, they'd take that large a chunk out of what he earned with Mayweather, no? Assuming he did get around $100m.

Either way, though, fair play to anyone suing McG. Given he got off, to the surprise of absolutely no-one, with effectively a feather-light slap on the wrist, it's only right that he should start facing real consequences to his actions.

No, but that's because he's doing what he wants. McGregor has been after this scenario since he twatted Aldo, in that he's done with spending so much time pre-fight doing media. Now the UFC need him more than ever, they're allowing him the chance to spend the coming weeks working his arse off training - hardly the mark of someone not relishing the fight.

If McGregor was only after the bigger pay day to pay his legal bills, then surely he'd be doing all the media and not putting the work in at the gym? It's why I suspect trolling.

He just earned $100m and the Khabib fight is already just about as huge as it's ever going to get. What would you do? Pack your suitcase and travel the world promoting the fight or stay at home training and spending time with your 1 year old kid?

No one is asking him to travel the world doing anything, he only did that for one UFC fight. I'm talking about how he usually approaches his fights and his opponents.

Where's the mental warfare? Where's the consummate showman?

Am I to believe that all these years he's been approaching fights the way he did because he had to? And that he didn't really want to do things that way? What, is he actually a private, retiring gentleman who just wanted to be left alone to train in Ireland without any fuss?

Bollocks.

Since the court case he's said fuck all. Then, the UFC quickly announce that he's fighting Khabib and they name a date as well? No "well, I'll jump in my private jet, come over and sit down with the UFC bosses and we can talk business" and all the usual nonsense he comes away with before dates etc are announced?

Anyone who thinks that his approach to this fight is all of his own choice is naive in my opinion. This is a guy who loves the limelight, he loves being the centre of attention, he loves all the "I'll sit down with Lorenzo and Frank and see what agreement we can come to" bullshit before his fights are announced.

It wasn't that long ago that people were posting in this section about how Conor runs the show, how he has the UFC by the short & curlies and all that jazz. Now he's playing ball, the consummate pro diligently going about his job while keeping a low profile?

We'll probably find out a while after the event, but there's more to it than that. Be it him playing ball in exchange for the UFC not taking him to court for disrupting their event and costing them fights from the card or whatever.

This all has the distinct stench of Ronda's last fight, where it became blatantly clear from the point she stepped into the cage that she really didn't want to be there.
