The Worst Pay-Per-View Match Ever

Another TNA abomination: Cheex vs Frank Parker on one of their early weekly PPV shows.

If you ever asked the question "What would happen if Mark Henry ate the Big Show?" then the answer is Cheex. He looks like someone took the boulder from Raiders of the Lost Ark, painted it brown, put it in spandex and hoped for the best. By the time he's walked to the ring he's blown up and sweating gravy. The match consists of Frank Parker bouncing off him and trying not to be eaten.

I think that was actually on their first PPV. Which is a hell of a drop considering the opener Styles / Lynn / Psychosis vs The Flying Elvis' was actually pretty darn good.

Weird thing about that Steiner/HHH match at the Royal Rumble is that at the time, my mates and I were ripping the piss out of Steiner because all he was doing was suplex after suplex, whereas these days that's all Brock Lesnar does and it's the shit. Of course, Brock isn't absolutely exhausted after throwing one suplex and desperately clinging to the ropes to pull himself back up as if he's on a ship's deck during a storm. Steiner was so calamitously wank during that match that at one point, when HHH is doing a heel pose in the corner, half the fans stand up and applaud him.

Given that it's so bad, people tend to forget that the match before that, Torrie Wilson vs Dawn Marie, is just as awful. The apparently never-ending build-up, with soft-porn standard acting, an incomprehensible lesbian subtext and non-actors joining non-wrestlers was bad enough. The match, apparently the culmination of a blood feud between a woman and the black widow who murdered her father, was the tamest of catfights, peppered with botches and clumsy fumbling in lieu of high spots. Sure, Torrie was a fantastic-looking girl, but in the ring, she looked so bad you could call her Quasimodo. And all this during the Smackdown Six era!

Mabel Vs. Yokozuna from In Your House 5 I think it was.

IYH4. mabel vs taker casket match was at 5

Cheers. Knew it was one of the early ones but tend to mix them up.

Fucking hell though, I forgot Mabel and Undertaker even had a casket match. Bet that was a stinker as well.

It wasn't even meant to be a tag. It was a single that between Neidhart and Jake but Jake was in fuck all shape to perform let alone walk. To attempt to save it they throw out Bundy and a near 800lbs Yoko to make it into a tag. From 02:08:00 it's horrible. It's painful. But it must be suffered through once. And only once.

So to answer you Jake. Do I want to play 21? No. After seeing you hold your snake like a winky and force some middle aged hag to fondle your man boobs I'd rather not thanks.

Not sure why but I have a serious urge to watch Heroes of Wrestling.

And the fact that Angle vs Benoit had a ton of suplexes in it, but was amazing.

Steiner vs Triple H was just constant belly-to-belly suplexes in slow-motion. Just the slowest match ever.

You'll need alcohol. Lots of it.

Those two title matches at Royal Rumble won both the Best Match of The Year and Worst Match of The Year in the 2003 Power Slam awards.

I don't think two matches from the same event (back-to-back matches at that) have done that before or since.

How about the Scaffold match with Steve Austin and Terry Taylor vs Bobby Eaton & PN News from Great American Bash 1991? Scaffold matches tend to be tedious with only a few exceptions but this one didn't even have the payoff of someone taking the big bump at the end. The finish is absolutely awful, where Eaton captures the flag from the heel teams end but neither the fans nor the commentators realised the match had ended. The guys just pretty much stopped fighting and climbed down.

King vs Cole is a definite. I had the misfortune of being there for it, Mania crowds aren't known for being the hottest but fuck me did this sap any life they might have had right out of them. As mentioned the match should have been a given, Cole ducks and dives for five minutes, takes a beating, piledrivered, crowd pops for Kings first Mania win. Instead we were given half an hour of dross, bored me to tears sitting through it.

Also, worth mentioning that horrendous promo in the build up that had Cole slag off Lawler's mum dying the week before. Horrible horrible stuff.
