iMPACt!
Remember the times when you bought a console, there was one version of it, an entire game was on a disc, there was no such thing as DLC or micro transactions and it was much more simpler and fun? Those were the days. You can keep your ps4 pros and your X Box one X Y Z.
Paid Members chokeout Posted June 12, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 12, 2017 Micro transactions and DLC are the fine line between developers making their money back to justify production costs and taking the piss ( locked content on release being the shittest thing) but updated versions of consoles are nothing new. Mega Drive had the Mega CD and Mega Drive 2. N64 had its memory upgrade. If anything it extends the shelf life of the console and guarantees they'll commit to producing games for it a little longer.

Bring your old man bro and ask him which one he'd rather play. It won't be that skinny thing you could beat easily. It's just not the same. /continue in the same vein for several paragraphs.

I also take no issue with DLC costing extra or even micro transactions for the likes of GTA V, as Loki pointed out on here some years ago, it's becoming increasingly harder for developers to make money these days, yet gamers want everything now. I remember buying "Kevin Keegan's Player Manager" on the SNES and being amazed that you could actually save the game as it had a battery back up built into the console! Moderators Astro Hollywood Posted June 13, 2017 Moderators Share Posted June 13, 2017 (edited) Talk about the good old days of gaming always makes me think of this Limmy sketch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjikLCPeUdo Ubisoft's pirate game Skull & Bones looked great in the trailer, with a development team that worked on Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, which was an amazing pirate game, but the gameplay footage is just naval battles Edited June 13, 2017 by Astro Hollywood
Merzbow
In one day of e3 we had two "reveals" of a 6 year old game, one version had you look like a cunt waggling your hands to play and the other was the same but with the sword that lad Zelda has. Several games on the NES, years before the SNES, had battery backup saving. Including both Zelda titles. It was nothing new during the SNES era. Certainly not any kind of "upgrade" for sure. I presume you're referring to Skyrim for Switch! That announcement has led to some cracking tweets taking the piss out of Bethesda, who seem intent in re-releasing the same version of Skyrim every couple of years until the end of time. Paid Members Au Posted June 13, 2017 Paid Members Share Posted June 13, 2017 Skyrim was in the pre-launch ad for the Switch so surely this has come as no surprise? The "gameplay" footage (inverted commas because it's either macro-driven or the player is highly skilled) of the new Spider-Man game has got me hyped and made me want to dig out my PS2 and play that old Spider-Man 2 game. It also lead me down a Wikipedia hole where I discovered that the developer of said Spider-Man 2 game also developed a Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2x which has all of the levels of the first two games, plus some new levels that I've never played, all in HD and is apparently far better than THPSHD which I thought was a huge let down. So of course I immediately bought it on eBay. Only released in the states but apparently it's on the Xbox 360 backwards compatible list and I have a soft-modded OG Xbox so hopefully I'll actually be able to play it once it turns up... Merzbow
There's also a PSVR version being shown off. Bethesda seem to be too busy suing people to develop their own new games, luckily they have id, MachineGames and Arkane bringing out some ace looking titles. You'll probably have more fun on that version too. It's hard to judge from a video of course, but it looks like they still haven't managed to replicate the immersive sense of freedom that SM2's web-slinging around skyscrapers created.
