Paid Members JNLister Posted March 7, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted March 7, 2016   . Once he got done with that, on request of Hulk Hogan (after they dumped Tugboat out of the main event positions), the Boss Man became the new member of Team Hogan. He was in Hulk Hogan’s corner at SummerSlam 90  Trivia note: According to the Observers of the time, this was done because Tugboat was getting a big head about being in a top spot. Sphinx
I'm jealous of the way you can write in a way that it feels like you're talking directly to the reader. Very natural.

Paid Members tiger_rick Posted March 7, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted March 7, 2016 Incredible stuff, Ian. Shall we just cancel post of the year? It's done. Â I loved the Boss Man too. Oddly just because the fat version of his Hasbro was the best figure at the time. Â I made a compilation of his first couple of years in the WWF about ten years ago now. It was joyous traipsing through those old shows picking up boys of gold like his introductory vignettes and the Dibiase skits. Â He was the king of the "inset" promo on the weekend shows. His little 20 second promos were always intense, always interns and always right on point. Â Never liked him the second time around.
Cobra1000
Well done Ian, that was an absolutely superb read. Looking like a great year in the HOF this year. Would sure love Demolition...
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted March 7, 2016 Awards Moderator Share Posted March 7, 2016 Incredible post, Ian, just incredible. That's my post of the year sorted. Â Boss Man was always a sentimental favourite of mine. He was a feature of the Ultimate Warrior colouring book that was the formation of my wrestling fandom, and along with Warrior, Bulldog and Undertaker became a favourite. The Boss Man Slam was a tremendous move. I loved him in the Attitude Era as well, great music, great... well, attitude... And a really fun character to play on the early SmackDown games. I popped massively when he turned up on SmackDown at the end of 2001 and attacked Austin, I remember taking the dog for a walk shortly afterwards with the idea of a new run on top for Boss Man buzzing through my head the entire time. Sadly it wasn't to be, and he's very sadly missed - I can't help but feel he'd have turned up now and again otherwise. Â The running Royal Rumble joke on here has kept his memory alive for me, and I always look forward to watching his matches on the Network, particularly discovering the Towers as a team, which I'd never seen much of before. Â Really pleased he's in the Hall of Fame, absolutely deserving. He's one of the first names that comes to mind for me when I think of classic WWF AND when I think of the Attitude Era, and there's not many others I can say that about. Â Once again, incredible post Ian. You've done Cobb County proud.
AshC
Great post and announcement! Aside from the awesome WWF stuff, how good is that match with Vader at Spring Stampede 1994?!

Paid Members bAzTNM#1 Posted March 8, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted March 8, 2016 Big Boss Man's last grappling bout was against Freddy Krueger in Japan. Boss Man beat the razor fingered paedo menace. What a man. Â
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted March 8, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted March 8, 2016 I can't think of the Bossman without thinking of this video cover. What company he's in here: Â Â I really liked that Heenan family angle. It was pretty under-rated. Bossman ploughing through Heenan's road blocks to get to his golden goose, the IC champion Mr Perfect was beautiful stuff. Everyone remembers Heenan ramping up the angle with his brilliant commentary but it delivered in the ring too. Bossman/Barbarian from the Royal Rumble is a cracking match that's pretty overlooked. Â Like Ian in the first post, I thought he should have gone over at WM7 for the IC belt. It seems silly now that you run that massive angle for months and he doesn't come out with the title. Back then, it was just gutting. It would, perhaps, have robbed us of Bret/Perfect at SummerSlam so it's maybe for the best but that angle deserved a big blow-off. Â How many jobs did he do on TV after the heel turn? My impression of him is that he never lost. The opposite of Jake Roberts who never seemed to win. Keith Houchen
Is that when Heenan kept going on about Boss Mans mum? Am I imagining stuff or did it lead to Heenan having to face Boss Man in a match?
Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted March 8, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted March 8, 2016 What UK event was it when Boss Man was walking to the ring, and the fans started chanting "You Fat Bastid!" at him? He looked genuinely perplexed as he asked "Fat Baysturd?"
