WWE Global Cruiserweight Series

It's just been announced... WWE will be hosting a 32 man tournament across ten weeks this summer from July 13th featuring both WWE and non contracted talent from around the world.

All the info is right here.

They've name dropped Evolve, Progress and Rev Pro in the article but acknowledged that talent contracted to other organisations most likely won't be able to compete, mentioning NJPW.

After years and years of JR and others talking about how they'd like to put more focus on lighter wrestlers but never coming through this is exciting stuff. Especially when you consider that we might see some familiar faces from these shores pop up.

Who do you reckon might be interesting additions from here? From Japan? Mexico? Anywhere else?

In all seriousness, I'd not be surprised if ZSJ wins it then goes to NXT. Especially now Will Ospreay is seemingly taking NJPW bookings.

Good shout, they're keeping close tabs on ZSJ and rumours of him heading over to NXT have been rife for a while. I honestly haven't watched any of his matches since he really started to get acclaim. Last time I saw him was about 8 years ago I reckon, maybe longer.

Has it not been widely circulated that Becky Lynch posted a photo of her with Zack with a caption saying he'd signed, but then promptly deleted it when she realized she'd let the cat out of the bag?

What's Alex Shelley up to these days?  I remember him being heavily rumoured for the cruiserweight show they were planning back when the Network was first announced.

He's been doing a lot more work back in the US over the last 6 months or so, notably in RoH. After leaving TNA he seemed totally disillusioned with the entire American scene and worked in Japan pretty much exclusively.

He's still connected to NJPW, though. Don't know how his particular contract might work with regard to this?

Let's not overlook homegrown talent from NXT. Chad Gable would be fantastic in this.

Didn't they say only signed talent that hasn't appeared on NXT would be eligible? I might've made that up but I'm sure I saw that in the Triple H interview.
