An Evening With Hulk Hogan

Don't get me wrong, racism is awful and wrong and can not be justified.

However, not a single person is perfect, we all say and do things which are wrong and we are not proud of. It's just that because he is a celebrity the whole world knows and holds it against him/ judges him.

I do not agree with what he has said, nor do I condone it; however I do think it gets way too much attention and we should move on.

Why all the hating?

To many Hulk Hogan is a (childhood) hero. Without him most of us wouldnt be watching wrestling today. And for the younger fans, without him chances are that there wouldnt be a WrestleMania and you probably would never have heard of WWF/ WWE.

I'm glad somebody's finally got to the real issue at heart here. It's like when I hear Germans who are ashamed of Hitler just because he caused a war and gassed some jews. I'm like "Herr, you wouldn't have had strong economic recovery without Adolf, why the hate?"

Apples and oranges. Hitler killed a lot of people. Hogan said things he shouldnt have said. I understand the hate for Hitler. Even though Germans should not be ashamed, because those were his actions, not theirs.

It would probably have helped if any of Hogan's excuses or apologies had been at all sincere.

Let's be honest, there was fuck all he could have said that would have made the slightest bit of difference. If he blames it on his circumstances at the time, he'll get pelters, if he accepts full responsibility and claims he's made a mistake people will accuse him of lying.

It is what it is, and the time has come to simply move on, be it hating him and having all childhood memories of him clinically removed from your brain, or accepting the fact that he's far from perfect and is a fucked up guy in an industry that's well known for its fucked up individuals.

He's still Hogan, he's still going to be out there in the wrestling world trying to make a buck and do his thing, and there's still going to be promoters who'll happily work with him. That's life I guess.

But you do condone it by giving him money. That way o-one will ever learn it's a bad thing to be a racist shit.

If it came out tomorrow Vince was caught saying sonething racist, would you stop watching The WWE?

Well I stopped buying Ballymaloe Relish (my favourite relish) after the owner got stung for child porn.

So everyone who buys a Hogan shirt, DVD, or who attends an event he's featured on is condoning racism?

You could argue that, yes.

What is your opinion on Steve Austin beating his wife, Linus, out of interest?

Not trying to bait you, for what its worth, just interested. Because wrestling in general is pretty rum. You sort of have to give up your morals at the door when following it. I mean, they inducted the Ultimate Warrior into the HOF last year and now he's like a God there, but if you read his website he was absolutely vile when it comes to his opinions of people with depression and homosexuals.

He could have *SHOCK HORROR* told the fucking truth? He's not a card-carrying racist but he used unacceptable racist language to demean someone. No excuses, no bullshit. Just apologise (to the individual involved particularly) and promise to educate yourself. And mean it.

I admit to not seeing every public appearance he made during that time, but isn't that kind of what he said? Didn't he admit that it was unacceptable, take full responsibility, and apologise?

He's done it with complete insincerity and made out that it's just the way ghetto people like him speak to each other. Everyone can see he's full of shit.

It's a tough one, and I think that it happened while I was away from wrestling makes it slightly easier to ignore. But I would be uneasy giving money directly to him, yes. Indirectly, I suppose some of my WWE Network money goes his way. Was he contrite about it? I must admit I don't really know much about it.

I have a tough time going to RevPro shows with AJ Styles on them because of his views on homosexuality but he seems to have at least learned to keep them more private than he used to.

And I'm absolutely planning to go to Southside in Bedford next month but will cancel those plans if they continue to book Bram before his trial.

It's never easy trying to stay on the right side.
