First World Problems

I share because I'm part of the internet generation and this is the kind of thing we do. Starting a thread specific to my issue seemed indulgent (well, more indulgent). Hence First World Problems.

----

I ordered a phone off Amazon. They tried to deliver it twice during the week but I wasn’t in. So, I phoned them up and arranged a Saturday delivery. I waited in all day for it. When it comes I open the package. Inside is the cell phone box, with a sense of “I've got shiny new shit” excitement, I open it and then find myself confused. The phone box contains the charge connection, some documentation and nothing else.

I call Amazon. The customer service chap seems suspicious. He notes that I haven't made any expensive purchases on this account before. Says that they'll have to do an investigation, Mentions that I have two Amazon accounts. Then calls the courier company. After speaking to them he agrees to send me a replacement. Even as he does so I think I hear suspicion in his voice.

I have two Amazon accounts. One that I was intending to phase out, which runs back to 2008 and has a multitude of purchases on it ranging from (relatively speaking) the microscopic to the massive, and my new account which contains only Kindle books. They are registered to very similar e-mail addresses. Does this look dodgy, I think. The whole conversation makes my paranoia (alas, an affliction that I am cursed with) kick into gear. Running scenarios in my head where it's all a ploy and where Amazon suspect that there has been some kind of fraud. Imagining a future where the po-po be coming to get me.

Also, I now have to wait in tomorrow as well. Then send them back the phone-less box. The whole thing is sucky.

Plus, the only reason I registered another Amazon account in the first place was because I made a couple of, ahem, “adult purchases” and then they kept recommending me more adult items. Something that frustrated the shit out of me as whenever I logged in I would see their “helpful” suggestions. I couldn't get them to stop (those fucks). An annoying situation. I mean, what if a chap wanted to log into his Amazon Account at work or some such. The situation was untenable. So, I cut my losses and decided to start a new.

Cell phone?

The phrase was in my mind as it's the term that the Amazon chap used; if I had to guess I would say that he sounded like an Indian who had learned to speak Americanised English.

Deliveries on a Sunday??? What fresh madness is this???

I ordered a DVD box set from Amazon on a Saturday evening. A courier turned up with it late Sunday afternoon. I was flabbergasted. Can't fault service like that: next day and a Sunday delivery!

That's nuts but I guess this is part of their courier outsourcing business model. I dread seeing those unmarked White vans pull up outside. More money spent :(

I made an Amazon purchase a couple of weeks ago and it was delivered in 45 minutes. Prime Now, motherfuckers.

When Amazon are good, they're great. Sometimes though, they're shit. Frequently the driver/drivers just can't be arsed delivering to blocks of flats, which can make a Prime delivery that's supposed to be next day take 2-3 days to turn up.

I complain if a prime delivery day is missed (if they have confirmed it will be delivered that day) and always get an extra month free on my account. This current membership period ends 4 months after it should have now
