We're in the home stretch for 2K Games's latest instalment. The release date is 30th October with preorder bonus of Arnie stuff.

There's some gameplay footage been released, which seems the same as it always was. The roster appears to be 120 characters deep.

Amusingly, Keyser Soze over on NeoGAF has compiled the entire IGN previews for the SmackDown series:

Okay, here is IGN's Preview history with the "Smackdown" series going back a few years. I have noticed that every year there is hope...

IGN WWE 12 Preview

SmackDown vs. Raw is dead, and THQ's fixing the stuff you complain about.

IGN Smackdown vs Raw 11 Preview

One match is never enough to judge a Smackdown game, but WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 seems like it's set to capitalize on what worked last year

IGN Smackdown vs Raw 10 Preview

WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010 has me very excited to play the final game. When I got my first hands-on with the title, the TV-like presentation had me jazzed, and the fact that this creation stuff is so slick is only adding to that feeling.

IGN Smackdown vs Raw 09 Preview

On the surface, the match looked and played a lot like last year's. True, Orton an 'taker looked more detailed and sharper overall, but the chairs that were around ringside still had the same satisfying steel-to-skull sound and the controls stick with the tried-and-true thumbstick format. However, as the match wore on, the little tweaks began to shine through.

IGN Smackdown vs Raw 08 Preview

After playing with the new controls ourselves we can attest that the single-button system keeps the matches fluid and fast-paced. It also helps that the new submission system is analog-based as well. How much pressure you apply and how quickly you pump your arms around someone's neck is now entirely up to you -- as is your defense to it, as escaping a grapple is handled with the analog sticks as well. All in all, it's definitely an improvement over last year's edition.

IGN Smackdown vs Raw 07 Preview

What we did see was some extremely impressive visuals and the kind of action wrestling fans have grown to love from the Smackdown series.

Forget Edge/Foley, if you're looking for someone who stole the show Wrestlemania weekend, look no further than THQ.

IGN Smackdown vs Raw 06 Preview

Officially known as WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006 (a title meant to reflect its new direction towards a sports and simulation feel), the new game from Yuke's Media Creations and the Toy Headquarters is undoubtedly the most ambitious game in the series so far. The brand new momentum system, the addition of attributes like Stamina and Hardcore, improved reversal mechanics, enhanced online features, and a host of other cool improvements are just a few of the several-dozen extras planned for this year's wrestling extravaganza.

IGN Smackdown vs Raw Preview

WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW is getting ready to hit the PS2 like a ton of bricks this fall. Easily one of the most, if not the most, anticipated sports game to come out this year, SmackDown! vs. RAW could very well have sales in the same unbelievable range as the previous entries in the series.

IGN Smackdown Here Come The Pain Preview

WWE Smackdown! is quickly shaping up to become one of the greatest wrestling games ever made. Normally a statement that's met with a great deal of skepticism, the claim that THQ's fifth interpretation of the UPN television show can pull off such a feat is quickly becoming more and more accepted in the hardcore wrestling community.

IGN Smackdown Shut you Mouth Preview

We'll have to wait much longer for everything to come out in the wash, but most of what we saw today seemed fairly promising.

IGN Smackdown Just Bring It Preview

WWF SmackDown! Just Bring It is a respectable effort from THQ and Yuke's.

http://ie.ps2.ign.com/articles/165/165128p1.html

IGN Smackdown Know you Role Preview

THQ delivered gameplay last time, and now they've delivered almost all the trimmings to go with it, including a very complete, up-to-date roster and a much-improved create-a-wrestler mode.

IGN Smackdown Preview

With incredible graphics and a plethora of cool features, WWF Smackdown is, far and away, the best wrestling game on PlayStation.

Is it coming out on the 360? I get it every year and the biggest roster ever and playing as terminator are both appealing to me but I can't justify getting a next gen console. I resigned myself to 2k15 being the last one I'd have so I won't get my hopes up.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat really. I bought 2k14 as I loved the idea of 30 years of Wrestlemania, but didn't bother last year as the storyline modes seemed shite tbh.

I'm intrigued as to their claims of 120 playable characters but if its all the current roster and a load of unknowns from NXT I probably won't bother. If its an extensive roster of proper superstars from the past, then that changes things (fickle I know). No Hulk Hogan in it already has me concerned though.

It was announced for last gen consoles. However, Amazon no longer have it available for pre-order but neither do they have it for xBox One.

I think it will still be on last gen consoles, but if it is I feel it will be the last one to be so

Yeah, I think so too. Hopefully the 3 man commentary works well.

Is there a chance there's another special edition or may they not be doing it this year?

It is, yeah. No word yet on what will be missing compared to the newer consoles, though. I'd assume it'd have all the wrestlers and the Terminator bonus.

I impulse bought a PS4 last week and got 2k15. It's alright but nothing great. Hopefully this year's will be better but I'm going to try not getting my hopes up. In fact I think I'm more excited to see if they do any more adverts for it, they've been fucking great

I don't mind how big the roster is as i usually wait a few months after the release date and then i'll get it and fill the game with community created New Japan and indy guys.

I'm hoping they increase the number of CAW slots available this year, as 25 didn't flesh out the roster all that much last year. Especially when i used a few to update various characters.

I haven't got one of these games since SvR 2011. Still really torn whether I'm getting this or not, as 2k15 looked like dross tbh. 25 Caw slots, loaaads of features missing, some of the worst being no ladder matches or create-a-diva function. From the looks of it, that one was rushed so I'll have to check out reviews of this once it's out. Roster's pretty exciting on size alone, expecting shitloads of late-90s faces from the Stone Cold ad.

My fear is they've thrown loads of wrestlers in to mask the fact that there's little actual content. I'd much prefer a good game with 40 wrestlers than a shit game with 120. The latest updates suggest there's a fair bit to the game as well, though. The gameplay last year was the best yet and by the sounds of it this year could be even better. I'm pretty optimistic about it.

How has the gameplay improved since the 2k games? They seem to have tinkered with grappling and submissions and stuff to try and get a more match-like experience from it. I've heard the controls get tiresome after a while though.
