I never wanted to be the one to post one of these threads, because it seems so ghoulish jumping in like you're trying to be Mr. Breaking Newz, but there are no threads yet, so...

TMZ have it, but few details yet.

Wrestling legend Roddy Piper has died at the age of 61 .. TMZ Sports has learned.

Piper -- born Roderick George Toombs -- passed away from natural causes at a home in Hollywood.

Piper was a wrestling icon -- one of the biggest stars in the WWE back in the '80s.

Piper had been diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2006 ... but last November he said he was cancer free.

Roddy was admitted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2005 ... and was one of the top 50- villains in the history of the WWE .

I'm not sure why, but Im struggling to fully believe this, seems so sudden considering he was doing interviews and tv appearances only a few days ago, but I guess thats how death works. If it's true, then wow, the wrestling world's going to be a lot less colourful without him around.

Guess this was his final interview then. Seems so hard to believe.

Aw, FFS. One of my favourites of all time, in my top 5. Not altogether surprising, considering the health problems he had, but still saddening.

RIP Hot Rod.

I'm really shocked by this one. I met him near enough exactly one year ago in Birmingham at one of the Eros Comedy events. It was a a really hot night in that building but he gave every fan he spoke with that night his full time and attention. I'll long treasure the short conversation I had with him. Say what you want about Roddy Piper and his eccentric nature and his questionable comments at times, but I left that show without any doubt in my mind that he had a genuine love for his fans and an appreciation for the part they played in allowing him to live the life he lived. The guy was a class act as far as his treatment of the fans went.

As for Roddy Piper the performer? One of my all time favourite characters. Never again shall there be another like him.

It's a painful one this.

R.I.P Hot Rod

His match against Bret Hart at WM8 is what hooked me in to wrestling. I remember being in to it in a very loose way, but seeing that just immersed me. I was transfixed as a kid and it still resonates now. Such sad news.
