Paid Members tiger_rick Posted April 28, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 28, 2015 ...If not for wrestling. I thought about this recently after hearing the Alice Cooper song "Schools out" on Homes under the hammer! If not for WM3, I'm not sure I'd have ever heard of Alice Cooper. When I saw the latest TNA news I realised I'd only ever heard of Billy Corgan because of the previous TNA rumours. I'd never seen Pee Wee Herman before he turned up on Raw. Didn't know K-fed either. Slightly different but the only thing I've ever watched William Shatter in is Raw!
Paid Members garynysmon Posted April 28, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 28, 2015 Pretty much every single American Football/Baseball/Hockey/Basketball player ever featured on WWF or WCW really.
Merzbow
Maria Menounos is the big one that pops to mind, I still have no clue who she is outside of the WWE. I'm pretty sure with the whole guest host/star era we had there's gonna be a fuck tonne. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WWE_Raw_guest_stars

Paid Members Your Fight Site Posted April 28, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 28, 2015 Sports types, like Babe Ruth (“Hulk Hogan is the Babe Ruth of professional wrestling”), Pete Rose etc. Also comedy actors. I only knew of Drew Carey for a while because of the 2001 Royal Rumble match.
Paid Members Carbomb Posted April 28, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 28, 2015 I'd never heard of Ryan Seacrest, Maria Menounos, Snooki, or that movie actor whose name completely eludes me right now - can't even remember what he was in. Think his surname began with a P.

Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted April 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 28, 2015 Snooki is still one of the best celeb appearances ever. Zero expectations, big delivery. Second only to Leslie Nielsen at Summerslam 94. I had never heard of Jennifer Hudson before Otunga turned up.

Think his surname began with a P. Jeremy Piven? The SummerFest guy? He's best known for his role in Entourage but he was also Mr Selfridge in the ITV drama of the same name and was on the supporting casts of both Ellen and the Larry Sanders Show back in the 90s. Had a decent career spanning two decades has Piven.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted April 28, 2015 Moderators Share Posted April 28, 2015 Ha! Yeah.. Before Entourage he was just "that guy who turns up in stuff and was in Seinfeld and was the only good thing about the show Ellen". For some reason I don't remember him in Larry Sanders but I did used to watch it.
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted April 28, 2015 Author Paid Members Share Posted April 28, 2015 Sports is a good point. Had no idea who LT or his mates were at WrestleMania 11. Same with Karl Malone. Guess I wouldn't know Jay Leno of not for WCW either.
Paid Members garynysmon Posted April 28, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 28, 2015 Its funny isn't it? The WWE is basically a worldwide brand but wouldn't dream of having a major footballer on the show (which the rest of the world would know who he is if not the Americans). But they have no problem getting these lads on that no-one outside north America would have a clue who they are.

Leno and Cooper are probably in the top percentile of famous people in the world even among famous people, and have been for several decades. Have you never heard of Leno being referenced by Family Guy or The Simpsons? Or seen Cooper's cameo in Wayne's World?

Alex Wright Mark
I had no idea who Kim Kardashian was until her appearance at WrestleMania 24. Then again, I don't think a lot of people did either.
