Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted April 16, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 16, 2015 Â These were great. I had the Schmeichel one. Les Ferdinand is frightening.
Awards Moderator HarmonicGenerator Posted April 16, 2015 Awards Moderator Share Posted April 16, 2015 That Ruud Gullit one is ace, I've got a friend who's a Chelsea fan and he'd love that. Â Gascoigne looks a bit insane on his one.
Paid Members PunkStep Posted April 16, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 16, 2015 NO?! When the hell did these come out?? They look like my era, I'd have been all other them had I known about them.
Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted April 16, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 16, 2015 I had that David Beckham one. Might still be at my mum and dad's house packed away in a box somewhere. Shit for actually drinking a cup of tea out of. Â Who remembers these? I had this John Barnes figure for some reason... Â
Flangedango
They made others for different 'Sporting Heroes' too. I had a Prince Naseem one. Only recently chucked it out after it had been collecting dust under my bed since 1998.   Bargain at £1.99.
Dirty Eddie
Didn't know Prince Naseem Mug was also Grey Worm from Game of Thrones... Â Â
Baz Windham
Bloody hell, yeah! Forgot about these, but now they've been reminded to me I seem to remember the molded head part smelling really rubbery. There's a sentence I never thought i'd type. Anyway, had the Shearer one.
gmoney
YES.  I bought the Ruud Gullit one from Woolworths in Sutton, with money from my 13th birthday. You just don't forget a purchase like that. My best mate got Les Ferdinand. I've got no clue what happen to it sadly. I do remember that I used to actually use it for tea, and it lent that shite plasticy twang to every cup. Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted April 17, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 17, 2015 This just kicked open a door of nostalgia. I forgot all about these. Sadly, we were poor white trash around the time these were knocking about, so I had to make do using the Giggs one whenever I went round a mates house. King Pitcos
Those smugs seem smack bang in my era too but I don't remember ever hearing of them. Two other bits of football tat from the same timeframe that I'm wondering if anyone else remembers, I can't find pictures of them because the words I'm using are too vague. Â The first was a flip book showing a goal, they did loads of Man Utd ones. I think they were double-sided, and they definitely had a red plastic handle thing on the top. Â The second was a little primitive portable video player, like a slightly more evolved View-master. You bought the device and could then buy the reels for it individually or in sets of two, each of which had a little video clip that it'd wind through. Â The flip books I might have just got from Old Trafford, but the video reel things were sold all over.
Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted April 17, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 17, 2015 Those don't ring any bells with me Pitcos, but immediately brought to mind these things which were given away in Kelloggs cereals during Euro 96... Â Â I collected a bunch of them. They were called Virtual Videos and each showed a little clip of an England player in action as you tilted it up and down. Don't think I still have it now though.
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted April 20, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted April 20, 2015 i'd have loved a Smug, they are amazing! Â I have a tump of those Sportstars figures though (i'll try digging em out), off the top of my head i have Southall, Maradonna (in a Napoli kit), Lineker, Barnes, Pat Nevin (!), Rush, Hughes, Walker. There are more. Â I was recently at the National Football Museum and they've got a few Sportstars figures on display there. Â I had those virtual video things too from the cornflakes, brilliant! Bradyisgod22
Anyone remember Corinthian PowerPops? They was little cards and when you pinched them together a player popped out. I had loads of these! Still have about 100 or so which I found in a bag recently! Â Edit: Also does anyone know if there worth anything? Rekon I could have some pretty sought after ones if there is a market for them!
