The Aweseomeness Of The Steiners

Hounds Of Justice

Recommended Posts

I used to love watching The Steiners when I was a youngster in the good old days of ITV and then when they were in WWE, just wanted to know what everyone's favourite Steiner Bro's matches/moments were as a tag team, I loved their hard hitting style, if someone could pimp me some matches of theirs for me to enjoy then I would greatly appreciate it.

them vs Sting & Luger was pretty epic!

I remember reading about that match, particularly the Apter Mags were mad for it, but when I watched it I was a little underwhelmed. Maybe the reality just couldn't live up to the hype, or maybe it was just me, but is seem to remember it not telling much of a story, and being just one big move after another. Could be my memory, need to refresh myself and watch again.

They were stunning in WCW pre WWF run, and were one of the mainly highlights of my 2am midweek viewing when I should have been in bed.

Outside of WCW they had an incredibly physical match in NJPW against Vader and Bigelow, which much like the aforementioned WCW match I haven't seen in years, and must look up again.

I've already said most of what I loved about them in the 'Steiner threatens murder' thread. But I loved the Steiners. My first memories of watching wrestling are from the WCW on ITV days in 1991 and 92, where Rick and Scott regularly made jobbers wish they'd phoned in sick.

Matches, I'd say everyone needs to see their tremendous match with Bret and Owen from Wrestlefest 94. It's been bummed to death on here countless times so I'd be surprised if anyone here hasn't seen it yet but it always deserves a mention.

From WCW I was a big fan of their matches with Dr Death and Terry Gordy in 1992. Hard hitting and suplexes all over the place from four hard bastards.

I liked the Sting and Luger match at Superbrawl 1. Fairly short but action packed. Some good matches with Arn Anderson and Bobby Eaton and Doom as well.

Even in their later WCW run in 96/97 I actually really enjoyed some of their throwaway TV matches against Scott Norton and Ice Train. They had a good match with the Roadwarriors on Nitro around that time as well.

Oh and the Steiners vs any combination of Keiji Muto/Hiroshi Hase/Kensuke Sasaki from New Japan was usually fantastic.

But even just Steiners vs jobbers matches are always worth a revisit.

They were amazing. To add to the list in the previous post, perhaps my favourite Steiners match is their brutally hard hitting effort against The Nasty Boys from Halloween Havoc 90. The crowd were mentally into the match, Rick busts Saggs open hard way with a chair and Brian Knobbs takes an absurd frankensteiner right on his head for the finish. Brilliant stuff.

My favorite Steiner related thing was when Scott ran down the ramp on Nitro and security tried to block him and he clotheslined every single one of them in one go. Seriously it was nuts, there were like 20 of them.

Personally I loved Sting/Luger vs The Steiners, although it's probably down to how much I loved the finish the first time I saw it, Stinger taking the hit for his best buddy even though it cost them the match.

I love it even more all these years later, because of the amount of times Luger was a cunt to Sting between that match and the end of his in-ring career. Between Luger, Ric Flair and a dozen other guys, Sting got turned on more times than Kane. Even though he needed to stay babyface for the Rollins match, I genuinely expected Orton to RKO Sting after their buddy-buddy fistbump on Raw. Because it's Sting, and you HAVE TO turn on Sting. It's the law.

But yeah, The Steiners. When they showed up in the WWF, I was very excited at how they threw jobbers around for fun and seemed legitimately the best tag team, and comfortably. It was like the perfect replacements for LOD had rocked up at exactly the right time... then they fucked off. I sulked for months when I realized the Steiners had been demoted and it was more likely that Men On A Mission were going to dethrone The Mounties and then just like that they were gone.

I'm not going to harp on about all the matches you already know about, but don't pass on their little sojourn in ECW. They beat the shit out of some of the minor Dudleys and were part of some good WORKRATE!1 matches too involving Too Cold, Eddie, Benoit and one or two others.
