Paid Members tiger_rick Posted March 26, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 26, 2015 The Daily Mail have had a reasonable go at quantifying the biggest club argument. Â Â What do you think about your club? Hull City at #32 is probably just a few places too low IMO. I think we're a bigger club than Burnley, Charlton, Fulham and QPR but in general we're in the right sort of area with other provincial clubs like Ipswich and Swansea who have never achieved much or it was a bloody long time ago. Â Not too many arguments overall either. I'd consider Forest, Derby and Birmingham bigger clubs than Stoke and Southampton. I'd probably have Leeds & Villa above Everton too. Leeds seem low but they have spent a lot of time outside the top flight. They're either winning Championships or meandering.

Ron&Hermione
I love lists like these, scrolling through and seeing how where each team finishes in each table. Â I'm not really a fan of 'player quality' and how they worked that out, with adding the England bit. Surely just do it only for players sent to the World Cup life time? Anyway not a big concern. Â Also it would be great to see a decade by decade rankings, though would be far too much work I imagine. But it would be fun to see who rises and falls over each decade. (I guess Chelsea and Man City would be the biggest risers. Who would be the biggest fallers? Forrest?) Â Anyway I do agree Hull actually seem low, like you said I would never have thought Charlton & Burnley would be ahead of them. Â The list shows what most people think, If Liverpool upgrade their stadium it looks like they would be in 2nd. However I do think Arsenal deserve to be there as look at their average league finish out of the teams! (2nd) I would never have thought that. Â Over the last 10 years I imagine it would be slightly different, same with the Premier League era. Those are what interest me more. L Â I may do a premier league era one, following their model, a but later when I'm bored.
Brock Goldberg
18th looking at that table. Â Not bad for a club whose been through so much rubbish in the last 15-18 years. Â Fingers crossed the recent takeover helps us to continue to improve on and off the pitch. 18th looking at that table. Sphinx
How have they judged it? Some teams seem higher than I'd have expected them. West Brom and Wolves immediately stood out. They've put Sunderland as a bigger club than West Ham - a point I argued before.
Paid Members PunkStep Posted March 26, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 26, 2015 They've put Sunderland as a bigger club than West Ham - a point I argued before. And you were wrong. I mean, who are we to argue The Daily Mail?? Â On a serious note, detail why you think Sunderland aren't a bigger club than West Ham. Potentially, what with the Olympic Stadium, West Ham can be a bigger team, but at the moment as I pointed out in another thread they're behind Sunderland in virtually every area. Sphinx
I could be wrong. I never saw them as being as big as they supposedly are. I just always saw West Ham as a bigger 'brand'. I saw more of their merchandise than Sunderland's, but then I'm not living up north. I guess players that have played for them have me think that too - di Canio, Ferdinand, Joe Cole, Lampard, Green, Mascherano, Tevez...Sunderland don't have such a rich alumni in my opinion. Paid Members I Bent My Wookie Posted March 26, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 26, 2015 Hereford United seems but a distant memory after the mess of this season, crooked owners, no money, bankruptcy etc. Â Will be good to see them rise as Hereford FC at least. Nothing like a good comeback story.

Yeah I'll be honest, I was shocked when I found out/came to the conclusion that they are a bigger club. For years as a kid I never saw Sunderland as a big club because they were a yo-yo club and as you pretty much put it West Ham are a more attractive club/brand.
