5pints
It could be a wrestler, Manager or special guest celebrity. It could either be something that they've done in the ring, cut a really good promo, or just put wrestling over in positive manner. To get things going I'll start with Snooki from Wrestlemania XXVII. When Trish tagged her in, the reception she got was about 95% boos and 5% polite applause. I don't think many were expecting what was to happen next - Two backflips into a handspring elbow onto Michelle McCool. Okay, so the pin wasn't that great but the crowd forgave her, She received a response from the crowd that most wrestlers would have been proud to have got. Paid Members quote the raven Posted March 13, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 13, 2015 Cm punk. I watched him fight hero for an hour in Ians barn, saw his work in ROH, and CZW. Heard about him being a problem in developmental figured he was done. Went on to make it all the way to the top before blowing his top and quitting. Again i figured hes done, now look at him he will be the hottest thing in UFC when he gets in the cage. I never would have put DB and CM punk as two of WWEs main guys in a million years. Professor Paul's Bin
Seth Rollins. Never would I have thought we would have seen Tyler Black featured dominant in a title match involving Brock Lesnar and John Cena. I enjoyed him in ROH but never thought he could have achieved what he has and what he is continuing to achieve.
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted March 13, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 13, 2015 Batista. I liked him from the start just because he was huge but when he was working as the Deacon I saw his tenure in WWE lasting months, not years, and I would honestly have felt that there was more chance of Devon holding the World Title than Big Dave. That he became generally excellent and had moments that were phenomenal is remarkable really. Oh, and Daniel Bryan obvs.
King Pitcos
The Miz. Saw nothing in him when he started, he was just an annoying reality TV div who couldn't remember his lines, but by about 2008 he was brilliant. He convinced people John Morrison had a personality. He went to shit after losing the title in 2011 really, but he's been great again since last summer.
Undefeated Steak
John Cena. Never expected him to grow into the calibre of wrestler he became. It was obvious he had what it took to become a star but he went from somebody who other wrestlers mocked for his poor wrestling skills, to going on to have career defining matches with everybody from Umaga to Brock Lesnar to the Great Khali. Does he still get "You can't wrestle" chants?

King Pitcos
There was one bloke who was surprised that Jon Stewart was a better talker than Roman Reigns.
Paid Members air_raid Posted March 13, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 13, 2015 In the same vein as CM Punk, the obvious answer for me is Daniel Bryan. Despite being thought of as one of the best in the scene he was leaving behind, he never had the size or obvious charisma to make an impact in WWE. Yet somehow he became a massive star off the back of a completely different style and character to what made him such a success in the world outside WWE and won the big one in the main event of the biggest show ever. Mental.
Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted March 13, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 13, 2015 John Cena. Never expected him to grow into the calibre of wrestler he became. Does he still get "You can't wrestle" chants? Bit off-topic, but I rewatched that Umaga match just recently on the Network and it really is one of my favourite matches of all time. I remember at the time thinking that it was a defining match for Cena, from my own perspective it was the first time I can recall thinking that he actually had become a great worker. Come to think of it, Cena would probably feature pretty heavily in my own Top 10 favourite matches list. He absolutely has exceeded my expectations. Liam O'Rourke
Sami Zayn takes this one. First time I watched him as Generico, I saw the physique, the style and the over the top bumping and selling and thought he'd never get to WWE. Am happy to be wrong, and the biggest thing for me is that I'll never understand why he covered his face, his expressions are awesome.
Mr_Danger
The first time I saw Rusev in that shit brown gear and sloppy big man style I never would have thought he'd grow in to one of my favourite wrestlers on the roster.
Paid Members ColinBollocks Posted March 13, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted March 13, 2015 Jeff Hardy was always a cool midcard/tag team act and that during the Attitude era, but when I stopped watching in 2003 he was a right state and IIRC he was sacked that year. Fast forward to 2008 (when I got back into it) and he was on his way to becoming the biggest babyface in wrestling. Incredible. Shame he couldn't be arsed with it though. Also, when I got back into wrestling again I was shocked at how good Cena was. The only thing I really read/heard about him from 2004-2008 was that he was proper shite. Turns out that opinion is proper shite.

Somebody (Pitcos?) recently made a really good point about the size of the DVD you could make with Cena's best matches, angles and promos. (Sorry I can't remember the exact quote.) Thinking about it, how many wrestlers have had their best match with Cena? - Brock Lesnar (Extreme Rules) - Umaga (Last Man Standing) - Edge (TLC?) - CM Punk (MITB) - Bobby Lashley (GAB) - Great Khali (???) - Rob Van Dam (ECW ONS II) - Daniel Bryan (Summerslam 2013) - JBL (Judgement Day 05) - Orton (???)
