Simon Cowell wants wrestling back on UK TV

He has already proved that he’s a champion when it comes to the music charts, but what about in the wrestling ring?

Simon Cowell is said to be hoping to revive British wrestling on TV, according to The Sun.

‘I used to watch it as a kid – I used to do it!’ the 55-year-old admitted after a grappling act auditioned for ITV show Britain’s Got Talent, on which he is a judge.

‘Now American wrestling’s big, I think it’s a good idea to bring it back. But you have to bring back really big people,’ said Si, who himself was a fan of late wrestling star Big Daddy back in the 70s.

‘Simon seemed really excited about bringing back wrestling. If anyone can get it back on the box, he can,’ a source reportedly told the newspaper.

Obviously it probably means fuck all, and he's thinking out loud, but if wrestling was going to get back on the telly in this country, it would need someone like ITV and Simon Cowell behind it. You'd need a big figure and a broadcasting company with loads of money to put it in all the papers, gossip mags, billboards and adverts every 5 minutes like with the Gladiators. Hopefully he gets all excited about it and has a think about it.

Or at least gets Jim Duggan and Brian Knobbs back in the studio with Pete Waterman.

This would be ace. The type of show you could sit and watch with your Gran as she shouts at the telly. Exactly how wrestling should be. You know Cowell's the biggest carny there is behind all that glitz and glamour. Saturday Night Wrestling on ITV would be the dog's bollocks.

Bradley Walsh could be the greatest wrestling presenter ever. Or would you go for Ant and Dec?

Imagine all the sob-story babyface video packages they could do?

Could you get a better lead-in show to Corrie on a Saturday night than an episode of wrestling?

I knew it was only a matter of time before we saw a wrestling act on Britain's Got Talent. I have no idea who or what auditioned, but I have often thought that a well-presented and rehearsed exhibition would be a good fit for the show.

When TNA comes to the UK, Eamon Holmes, the Beast off The Chase and all the other big (and by that I mean fat) celebs show up. Wrestling is well liked in this country by loads of people. I mean Lizzy Cundy was at the London TNA show. If Lizzy Cundy turns up, you know the party is in full swing.

He's missed the boat a bit there I think. By about 15 years.

That bit killed me, sounds like someone from 25 years ago that has just discovered what Hulkamania is.

IF anything does come to fruition here, I can't see it being decent sadly. British wrestling definitely needs someone like Cowell, with his massive network influence and financial backing, but someone whose shows (whilst insanely popular) aren't fucking tripe.

Cowell was on board over twenty years ago- he was the executive producer of the WrestleMania album which was released in 1993.
