Paid Members air_raid Posted February 21, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted February 21, 2015 Has anyone mention the blue flap on the video yet? That's how you knew it was an official SV tape  As a kid, I assumed it cost them more to get the body in one colour plastic and the spine in another, and thought it was a colossal waste of money. CTXRussomark
They were abandoned fairly quickly were they not? I'm thinking once the Macrovision protection was abandoned after 1992? Â I remember around 1995 the releases started coming in fancier cases that opened from the middle rather than a front flap with the 4 "teeth" to hold it shut. Distinctly remember trying to convince a cashier at WH Smith to let me switch the case on a tape I was buying so it was one of the new style ones. She didn't understand and flat out refused. Paid Members bAzTNM#1 Posted February 21, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted February 21, 2015 (edited) Barras Market in Glasgow from about 1991 until 1994 used to sell loads of pirated WWF VHS releases. Cracking quality too, for a pirated VHS. Â Quality of the official VHS releases went downhill a bit from around 1994 - 1996. Check out the backcovers. Abe_Knuckleball_Schwartz
Has anyone mention the blue flap on the video yet? That's how you knew it was an official SV tape I can also recall on the video for Wrestlemania I (I think) it featured a brown coloured flap. - unless it was a knock off copy! Paid Members JNLister Posted February 21, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted February 21, 2015 Now there's a question -- how come SilverVision stuff didn't have Macrovision protection like the WCW First Independent releases?
Midnight Zeus
Most of the VHS era was before my time, but it surprises me they didn't have copy protection, as that was always a big thing while I was there.  Before I joined SV I never knew the mail order service existed. In all the years I'd been buying videos, it never occurred to me to write off and see what else they had available, relying on what the Smiths nearest to me had. I remember topping up my collection somewhat when I was at Uni and my loan came through.  Fast forward to working there and my staff price for videos was £2.50. Each month I got paid I'd spend £100 on videos, maybe more. In a few months I'd completed my collection, as many as I wanted anyway. In true style for my nature, most stayed sealed in boxes in my loft until I ended up giving them away years later.
Glass Smash
Shame Postcard From the Carribean never got a DVD release as this one featured Trish soaking herself with the hose in a white t shirt. Someone leaked footage of this while she was doing the shoot on the net ages ago on a torrent site but it vanished. Some people uploaded it onto Dailymotion and various porn sites but the quality was shit. I think this was the only footage out there where you can actually see her nipples. Obviously the original source would've been better.

Don't have a clue. All Turner VHS used the Macrovision though. Even the films.
CTXRussomark
The 1992 SV releases did have Macrovision so I can only assume it wasn't cost effective. Can't think of any other reason they'd ditch it.
Glass Smash
Tagged Classics were direct copies from the VHS releases right? So why was The Kat's tits from Armageddon 99 uncensored on the VHS release but blurred out on the Tagged Classics? Paid Members WWFChilli Posted February 21, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted February 21, 2015 (edited) Because her norks were shit. Â What titles never ended up being released then, and who designed those awesome early covers for the Manias, Survivors and Summerslams (if you are aware). Also did any yank releases not make it to these shores? Edited February 21, 2015 by WWFChilli
Paid Members herbie747 Posted February 21, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted February 21, 2015 (edited) I had all the original VHS tapes from WM1 up to No Way Out 2002. Â Edited February 21, 2015 by herbie747
Midnight Zeus
Superstar Billy Graham, Legends of Wrestling and Tribute To The Troops are ones I can think of off the bat. Tribute To The Troops was seen as a bit too political a release for the UK/EU market.
