Moderators PowerButchi Posted January 8, 2015 Moderators Share Posted January 8, 2015 Question Time's in Wrexham in on the 29th January, and being of the Militant tendency I hope to get on and have applied. Mainly to espouse the benefits of immigration to this pocket of the world. My Question to you is, have any of you been on it before? Thoughts? Experiences? Free food? Paid Members Chris B Posted January 8, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted January 8, 2015 Yeah, I was on it in 2010. Called a Daily Mail journalist disingenuous, although it was in defence of Nick Clegg, so it now feels less like a win than it used to. Â If it's still run the way it was then, it'll go something like this: Â You'll be there quite early. You'll then be put into smaller groups to talk over current issues - this could be anywhere. With us, in Lewisham, it was more or less in the lobby of the building. You'll be given cards to write a couple of questions on. They'll then collect the cards, and pick which questions they think are most representative. Â After this, you'll go into the room itself. They'll do a dry run to test stuff out, with members of the audience. It can be quite a good laugh. Then they introduce the panelists and Dimbleby runs through some basic rules. It's pretty interesting stuff, altogether. I really enjoyed it. Wear something clear and plain, so he can pick you out easier. And be prepared to have your hand up for a long time. Â EDIT - I don't remember any free food. I think there was coffee and the like.
Paid Members garynysmon Posted January 8, 2015 Paid Members Share Posted January 8, 2015 I've been in the audience for Pawb a'i Farn, which is basically the Welsh version of Question Time and is also produced by the BBC, so I imagine its pretty similar. Chris B has pretty much nailed it to be honest but we got a free buffet and complimentary tea/coffee machine.
patiirc
Yeah, I was on in Preston and asked Peter Hain a question about the then incoming smoking ban he couldn't answer. The experience was exactly the same as Chris B pretty much except Dimbleby did come over and chat with all of the little groups for a bit. The test run is fun as anything goes to get the audience used to the format, wish I volunteered for the test panel now.  It's worth experiencing and is as is on telly, apart from the test run.  If you do get on you could be asked to other events. I was asked to a Newsnight thing for the Lib Dem's when Ming was stepping down and they were chosing a new leader. Ultimately I didn't get on in the end, but interesting nonetheless
