Male vs Female matches

How does everyone feel about man vs woman wrestling matches?

I see that Kay Lee Ray is booked to wrestle a man at a Tidal wrestling show this evening... My immediate reaction is that it's in very poor taste. If the woman gets the upper hand and goes over then makes the male wrestler look like an idiot, vice versa then it's just uncomfortable seeing a man beat up a woman.

10, even probably as recently as 5, years ago I didn't think anything of them. Probably because there were so many of them that you become desensitised to them, much like when we used to see somebody bleeding on most shows. I find them difficult to watch now, and I didn't feel comfortable watching that male vs female match in Lucha Underground. I expect this to be a good discussion.

I've seen Kay Lee Ray wrestle vs men quite a bit. After a while I had forgotten it was female vs male and just enjoyed the match.

I'm not sure I agree with these matches but they make better viewing than female vs female.

Truth be told a lot of women's match bore me to tears.

Nixon is another put her in the ring with a woman and it's a yawnfest. Put her in with men she becomes interesting.

I think Kay Lee Ray is actually better in the ring when against a man. Her match against Martin Kirby for Southside in August is one of my favourite matches of this year as the story, in-ring action and drama really sucked you in. It's the most I've been emotionally invested in a match in ages.

I don't have a problem with them in theory, especially in a "safe" environment like WWE these days. The problem is that most women are either the drizzling shits or are pretty small. So in the main promotions, I just don't see them working as anything other than a gimmick to get over a chauvinist heel.

If a promotion was to push a proper cruiserweight division and had women working with men who are as good as Sexy Star then I could enjoy that I think.

I completely agree that match sucked me in completely. Both KLR and Kirby were brilliant that night (as they were in the Speed King final).

Also I agree her and Nixon seem more comfortable in the ring with men.

That's why although I don't really like male vs female in some cases it's the only way to do things.

I saw one that served as a wind down match last year. Match had some amusing spots but she take a couple of stiff looking clotheslines and the guy took control a fair bit. The finish was a good laugh. The girl did a vault over the ropes roll up but the guy held on to the ropes, prompting the ref to kick his arms off and he got rolled up for the 3.

They are tricky, but obviously, you can't be too rough with it on say, a family show. It can work as a comedy bit if you get it right.

Take out the work rate banter for a minute.

Tonight's Tidal wrestling show for example is aimed at kids, would you if you are or even if you are not be happy explaining to a child or allow your child watch what is essentially man on woman violence?

It depends on the end and the structure to that point. If the woman ends up winning and is presented as a credible contender on the same level as the man, and added in they are over coming a chauvinist man often as well, then I've known young girls see it as an empowering vision of equality, especially as its presented as a "sport" of sorts and they are all trained professional who have worked hard to be where they are.

If its presented as some bloke just knocking about some woman then that's a whole other matter, isn't it.

Not in favour, but I've seen it done well a couple of times in Japan & most recently the Greg Excellent vs. Mia Yim trilogy of matches for CZW was pretty impressive. Both came across really well. He looked after her, but the pair of them properly went for it & the feud didn't come across as hokey. During an emotional speech after match 3, she thanked him for treating her like a wrestler.

Men and women are equal, so what's the harm? It's a bit prejudiced to think that women are weak little waifs who can't fight a man.

Exactly. The amount of sexism in this thread is appalling.

Rubbish. Scripted or not, wrestling is simulated physical violence. I aren't getting off on watching a 230 pound man knocking a woman around.
