Magnificent Marketing

Working in the profession I have a vested interest in this topic, but as consumers we’re all affected by it, knowingly or otherwise on a daily basis.

I saw a fantastic piece of marketing in Iceland the other day which works way beyond a simple pun in that it’s a product perfectly pitched at the consumer in those sort of lower income stores.

Check out these bad boys…

I love a clever logo design too. Massive fan of Amazon’s A to Z

I know there’s a few people on here working in similar fields and I’m sure there’s far less mainstream and equally brilliant stuff out there, so feel free to share.

For some reason I always seem to over analyse the negative aspects of a product when I see it advertised. The first thing I thought on that BK ad was how ridiculous the prices are at motorway services where the meals do actually cost £6+. It's not ridiculous, it's about 50p more expensive but the fact they're trying to 'trick' me means the advert has the opposite effect. The £3.79 is an after thought.

Also the fact that it's Richard Blackwood selling it means I'm extra unenthused about the product.

I'm a sucker for any food that is labelled 'limited edition'. Doesn't matter if it's Walkers 6 new flavours to vote for or Pepsi Coffee, I'll buy anything that is 'limited edition' just in case I don't get to try it before it gets taken off. I'm not even sure if there's a law that says this stuff has to be limited for an actual time or if companies use it just to get me to buy their stuff.

ASA reckons you need some evidence to back up the claim: http://www.cap.org.uk/Advice-Training-on-the-rules/Advice-Online-Database/Limited-editions-and-collectibles.aspx#.VGZZa_l_Q4A
