Paid Members Nostalgia Nonce 1,539 Posted October 22, 2014 Paid Members Report Share Posted October 22, 2014  Indeed. Cheeseboard is the only acceptable dessert course....only acceptable after dessert course. Why deny yourself the pleasure of the double bubble? Pudding and then cheese and biscuits to round it off. Quite right. I love cheese (especially the smokey ones), but I wouldn't pass on a nice rhubarb crumble.
Paid Members Arch Stanton 969 Posted October 22, 2014 Paid Members Report Share Posted October 22, 2014 Yeah, smoky cheeses are great. I tend to love any food or drink with a smoky flavour, come to think of it. Especially whisky.
Keith Houchen 17,693
Why would you put gravy on things that are nice because they are crisp, like chips, battered fish or fried chicken? Â That's completely stupid. Â Gravy is there to bring together a dish that would otherwise be a bit dry, like a roast. Â I make fucking great gravy - using the juices from whatever I'm roasting, plus a glass of the appropriate wine to lift all the good bits off the pan, then the starchy water from the veg plus cornflower to thicken it up and not forgetting a splash of Worcester Sauce for that anchovy kick. Â Plus salt and pepper. Â To be honest, what this thread has taught me is that a lot of you guys have nothing in your fridge, therefore never cook for yourselves, therefore have no idea what good food can actually taste like. Â The odd takeaway is great, but all the time? Â And who doesn't like cheese, or have some in their house? I would like to agree with you, but then I'd be agreeing with you, even if I do. I wish I liked cheese, I could cook so many more dishes if I did. I do cook some dishes with cheese for Mrs H though. I'm getting a good griddle pan so I can do some halloumi dishes for her. CAREBEAR LUVVA 276
Edit: Nevermind. Nowhere on Just-Eat in Liverpool seems to do both cheesy chips and gravy. Lau's on Smithdown Road will do pretty much any combination of takeaway muck you can think of. They're not on Just Eat but they do phone orders if that's any use. Alternatively, if you're feeling really brave, Panny's on Breck Road are fairly accommodating to unusual requests!
King Pitcos 2,961
Cheers, CBL! I think I'm a bit out of the way for them, though (about 4-5 miles from both). Generally, takeaway is just for nights when I can't be arsed going to the Tesco that's about a mile and a half away, so I'd be breaking all manner of my own logic just for the sake of cheesy chips and gravy that someone else has made. I've got to knock the idea on the head anyway, because the next fast food I get will be the Sweet Chilli Fiesta from McDonalds!
CAREBEAR LUVVA 276
I've been behaving myself for the last few weeks but I miss takeaways so much This thread has been a cracking read though. Especially the bits about roast dinners.
Paid Members Nick Soapdish 107 Posted October 23, 2014 Paid Members Report Share Posted October 23, 2014 I don't get the "Southerners don't have gravy on chips" thing. Presumably that's only a thing until they actually try it. Â Your damn right.Chips and Gravy is the food equivalent of the expression Once you go Black...

Mr_Danger 3,404
Every now and then I'll be flicking through the channels and I'll see Terry Crews in White Chicks. Some times I nearly watch it such is the allure of Terry Crews.
Refused 0
The problem down south is finding a place that does decent chips AND decent gravy, it's always one or the other. Last place I tried gave me something they called "gravy sauce", which was a thin watery onion gravy. No use to anybody. Only decent place I've found was in Winchester, and that was because a Northern mate tipped me off about it.
Moderators PowerButchi 7,598 Posted October 24, 2014 Moderators Report Share Posted October 24, 2014 What do we all think of Fray Bentos pies? Only acceptable answer here is "Love 'em Butch!". Steak and Kidney's the best one. Just blast it for half an hour, eat out of the tin, then hoy the hubcap out of the window. Or if with potatoes the only acceptable potato to go with it is Smash. It just doesn't seem right with proper ones.
