There's a lot of UK50 débutantes this year as well as some big jumps up the list for others, it really shows how much the landscape has shifted these past 12-18 months with so many young wrestlers really stepping up their game, and so many great promotions doing a really good job showcasing them.

Teamed with Damian Dunne to feud with the Hunters in Triple-X Wrestling, then won a 4-way over Damian and the Hunters to become recognised as the number one contender to Eddie Dennis’ championship.  Chase of the title has been the top storyline in the promotion since that time... Became the first PWK Champion by virtue of victory over Wild Boar in July 2013 then subsequently defended belt against Jay Lethal and Martin Kirby... Beat Kid Fite to earn a shot at the Kamikaze Pro strap, but was defeated by Ryan Smile in the resulting title tussle.  Went on to face Trent Barretta, Steve Corino and James Mason in the same promotion, and failed to dethrone Damian Dunne for the Relentless Division championship... Lost his 4FW Junior Heavyweight Title to Japanese star Kenbai... Challenged for the SWE Speed King Title in multiple 6-way contests... Arrived in PROGRESS Wrestling as part of the 2014 Natural Progression Series tournament, beating Robbie X in the first round then joining forces with the promotion’s babyfaces to battle Jimmy Havoc’s evil Regression stable... Formed the tag team ‘Flips n Forearms’ with Mark Andrews in Fight Club: Pro, ATTACK! And Tidal Championship Wrestling, frequently battling the Hunter Brothers, Dan Moloney & Tyler Bate and more... Embarked on a 2-month tour of the US alongside Andrews, taking in independent promotions in New Jersey, Ohio, Illinois and Pennsylvania...

UKFF says:

"This young guy has become on of the top big guys in wrestling, he is only young but he is a tough grappler in the ring"

"Continues to improve, had possibly his best year yet, establishing himself in FCP and Southside and impressed in both singles and a tag with Mark Andrews. Also shone when given his chance with Progess and Rev Pro"

"Major player in the making. He just gets it"

"With the rate he keeps improving at it's hard not to see Pete becoming one of the best of his generation. He must be amongst some of the busiest wrestlers in the country, but he uses every single match as an opportunity to step it up, and that's the exact reason he's going to go far"

"maybe still one of the most underrated guys in the country. Felt he's took it to another level this year especially at Attack!"

Benny says:

This guy has almost completely changed up his look and his style over the last year.  As one of the ‘DEFEND INDY WRESTLING’ gang, he’s another of those that appears across the myriad of various midlands outfits, though I’ve only had chance to see him in PROGRESS and in Triple-X, the latter of which being where I have literally seen him ‘grow up’ over the years.  Bouts last year in Triple-X against the Hunters were really good, particularly the 4-way contenders’ match, then the spotlight has been placed on him in high-profile singles bouts towards the top of the card to show what he can do.  I think I still prefer him in fast-paced, all-action multi-way and tag bouts rather than slower, more methodical technical singles contests, but I reckon the next year will continue the trend from this one and see him starting to appear in more and more corners of the country in more and more showcase matches.

No. 19 - James Davis
Twitter: @LondonRiotsJD
Entrance theme: ‘Diesel Power’ – The Prodigy (with custom intro)
Did anyone vote him No. 1 in 2014? No.

UKFF UK50 history:
None.

Regular promotions during period:
IPW:UK in Kent... PROGRESS Wrestling in London... Revolution Pro Wrestling in London & Kent... Future Pro Wrestling in London.

James Davis and Rob Lynch form the noted tag team the London Riots.  Lynch is yet to be revealed in this year's UK50, but I shall cover both at the same time...

Storyline in PROGRESS saw the Riots go undefeated over the first 7 shows whilst raising the ire of management with their cheating, threatening and bullying tactics.  For their ‘final contracted appearance’ with the promotion at ‘Chapter 8’, the Riots were placed into specialised singles matches as a punishment on the way out: Lynch lost to Danny Garnell in a ‘Last Man Standing’ bout while Davis beat Jimmy Havoc in a ‘Hardcore’ effort.  Despite being cut from PROGRESS, the Riots invaded ‘Chapter 9’ as part of the angle where Havoc turned on PROGRESS co-owner Jim Smallman.  Reinstated as part of Havoc’s anti-PROGRESS ‘Regression’ group, Davis and Lynch engaged in a violent feud with the Bhangra Knights (RJ Singh & Darrell Allen), then ended up top contenders to the PROGRESS Tag Team Championship when they won a 4-way elimination match at ‘Chapter 13 – Unbelievable Jeff’.  Their subsequent shot at champions F.S.U. (Mark Andrews & Eddie Dennis) saw the Riots’ very first tag loss in the 2-year history of PROGRESS in a super-heated, super-dramatic contest.  Davis and Lynch have since been expelled from PROGRESS once again when Regression lost a specially-stipulated 8-man tag to a squad of the promotion’s top babyfaces, after leader Jimmy Havoc threw them under the bus...

Feud with the Bhangra Knights carried over to IPW:UK, where the Riots lost the British Tag Team Titles to their rivals in the 30-Minute Iron Team main event of the promotion’s Ninth Anniversary Show.  Won the belts back in a ‘Cricket Bat Brawl’ in January, then mirrored the PROGRESS storyline by joining Jimmy Havoc’s lead heel stable.  Held onto the British titles over the Southern Alliance (the old RBW team of RJ Singh & Stixx) and D&D Security (Danny Duggan & Kieran Donnelly)... Elsewhere, battled the Coffey Brothers in both SWA and ICW, and failed to unseat The Predators for the Southside tag titles... Rumbled with Project Ego (Kris Travis & Martin Kirby) and the Swords of Essex (Will Ospreay & Paul Robinson) during the second half of 2013 at RevPro... After the end of the 2014 eligibility period, held onto the IPW:UK British Tag Team Titles against the Leaders of the New School (Zack Sabre Jr. & Marty Scurll) and the World’s Cutest Tag Team (Joey Ryan & Candice LeRae), and arrived in New Generation Wrestling (Hull) to beat Stixx & Colossus for that set of straps.

UKFF says (on Davis):

"A top tough wrestler, his match vs Will Ospreay earlier this year was a classic, both wrestlers showing how entertaining UK wrestling is"

"One half of the top tag team in the UK The London Riots. The Riots wrestle a very believable style and its easy to believe they genuinely want to hurt their opponents. Pure hatred follow these two where ever they go they are genuine heat magnets. The more technically sound of the two Riots"

"Fuck these guys are the best pricks ever. Hard hitting style with some great power moves"

"Enjoy watching these guys at Progress and Rev Pro especially as they are involved in the Jimmy Havoc regression stable"

Benny says:

The London Riots are a fantastic tag team act, improving incredibly since they first started emerging individually a few years back as 'JD SInn'/'James Dahmer' and 'Robbie Sincaide'.  Now, I'd put them right up there with PCW's combo of T-Bone & Rampage Brown and F.S.U. of Mark Andrews & Eddie Dennis as the best going.  They just exude intensity and look to be on the edge all the time, often scarily so. You get the feeling it might just kick off into, well, a riot.  The storyline of their unwanted dominance in PROGRESS has been brilliantly told, resulting in some cracking, emotionally charged contests.

It came after the end of this year's eligibility period, but the PROGRESS Chapter 15 8-man tag team main event that saw the Riots banished from the company was pretty much the best all-British match that I have ever seen in all my years of attending shows in this country.  It'd be great to see them doing more stuff around the country, which with the likes of NGW, SWE and ICW, looks like it is starting to happen.

Defeated long-term rival Mikey Whiplash for the ICW Heavyweight Title in the main event of ‘Fear & Loathing VI’, then stood strong as the promotional figurehead champion with subsequent defences against Chris Renfrew, Kid Fite, Prince Devitt (twice), James Scott & Joe Coffey (3-way), Sabu & Renfrew & Wolfgang (4-way), Red Lightning, Jimmy Havoc and Wolfgang... Team with Whiplash lost the BCW Tag Team Titles to Just Uz (BT Gunn & Stevie Xavier) in August 2013. Subsequent BCW opponents have included Grado, Wolfgang and VADER... Was a regular part of PBW cards throughout the year, including championship challenges to the tag team (Just Uz) and singles (El Ligero ) belt-holders... Won WrestleZone’s ‘Regal Rumble’ in March, then went on to beat Crusher Craib for that group’s Undisputed Championship 2 months later. Has since lost the title back to Craib at ‘Battle of the Nations 2014’ in the summer... Fought Fight Club:Pro’s Clint Margera in a unique ‘No Canvas, Bare Boards’ hardcore match for HOP:E, then returned to the promotion this summer to face Dave Mastiff and Kris Travis in singles bouts...

UKFF says:

"Great reing as ICW champ and has deleivered matches ranging from very good to awesome during that time"

"Plays his role brilliantly. The first time I saw him he's legitimately intimidating"

"more believable and realistic than anyone I have ever seen in a British ring. Brings the intensity every time"

Benny says:

Never seen him aside from one match on an episode of ICW's crappy old TV show on MyChannel TV, so can’t really comment. He looks good...

Great to see JD so high, though surprised that Rob Lynch has ended up higher than him tbh - I'd consider JD the slightly better worker. Jester...meh. I can take him or leave him, he's no better than any number of brawlers in the country though the way he is protected in ICW does make him seem like a bigger deal. That is to their credit.

Had Jester as my number 1. There are better wrestlers out there but the few times I've seen Jester nobody has projected the aura of being a dangerous bastard.

Can I ask (and I'm not trying to be snarky or anything I'm just curious), how much British wrestling outside of ICW have you seen this year? My gut feeling is there are more ICW fans who don't watch anything else more than any other British company.

Never been to an ICW show. The 3 times I've seen him was in HOP:E wrestling vs Kris Travis, Dave Mastiff and El Ligero.

There are many out there I think are better wrestlers or more entertaining. I just thought he had an aura. Out of everyone I've seen this year he played his role perfectly.

The only promotions I've seen this year have been HOP:E, WAW, Southside and (shhh) Megaslam.

That's really interesting, apologies for assuming :)

At a guess, I'd say Rob Lynch is higher as the scarier of the Riots..

No problem :-). When he first appeared on the card I was dubious and thought he might be all hype. I was genuinely impressed though. He came into the room picked the rowdiness fans in the room, went over and started to work them.

It was brilliant to watch. He then went on and had a wild brawl with Kris Travis all over the building. His match with Dave Mastiff was an afternoon match it was hard hitting but same again he worked the crowd. The El Ligero match was the same as the Travis match. A joy to watch.

That's why he was my number 1.

you'd think established tag teams would have equal scoring or near about, I remember the Hunter Bros being about 1 place apart one year.

So would I have , thought the Hunters had an amazing year this year as did the Riots !

Tag team wrestling feels strong at the min even with the loss of Ego and LDRS
