Thought this might make a nice monthly conversation piece if others find it interesting. Every month I'll go back 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years into the archives.

CM Punk won the World Heavyweight Title from Jeff Hardy in a SummerSlam TLC match … Christian beat William Regal in a 10-second ECW Title match … RAW guest hosts included Jeremy Piven, Freddie Prinze Jr, Dusty Rhodes and Floyd Mayweather … Jeff Hardy lost a loser leaves WWE match to Punk on August 25th … D’Angelo Dinero debuted in TNA … Kevin Nash beat Mick Foley to win the TNA Legends Title at Hard Justice … Taz debuted as TNA colour commentator … Dixie Carter debuted on TNA TV and got a taste for it … The FWA held a comeback show … Togi Makabe beat Shinsuke Nakamura in the G1 Final. Makabe previously lost to Tensai in Block A. Tajiri was also in it.

 

August 2004

 

Randy Orton beat C**** B***** to become the youngest WWE Champion in history at SummerSlam … Triple H destroyed William Regal in a brilliant angle to build his SummerSlam match with Eugene … Kane and Lita “married” in a chaotic angle … Randy Orton spit in Triple H’s face and ran away from Evolution in some of the worst booking of a babyface in wrestling history … Hiroyoshi Tenzan beat Hiroshi Tanahashi in the G1 Final

 

August 1999

 

Mankind beat Triple H and Champion Steve Austin at SummerSlam to win his fourth and final WWF Title … Jesse Ventura appeared as guest referee … Jeff Jarrett ends D-Lo Brown’s glorious reign as Euro-Intercontinental champion … Triple H won his first WWF title from Mankind on August 23rd Raw … Also on the show Jeff Jarrett handed Mark Henry the European title and debuts Miss Kitty … The first ever Smackdown taping took place on August 24th … Chris Jericho made a genuinely earth-shattering WWF debut on August 9th interrupting The Rock … The Dudleys debut at the Jakked tapings on August 30th (two points if you can name their opponents without looking it up) … Raven quit WCW at an infamous backstage meeting … Kevin Nash retired, ahem, after losing to Hulk Hogan at WCW Road Wild … Chris Benoit won the US Title on Nitro August 9th … Jerry Flynn got a US Title shot … The first ECW on TNN tapings drew 3,283 in Toledo, Ohio … The Dudleys dropped the Tag Titles to Tommy Dreamer and the returning Raven before leaving ECW … Manabu Nakanashi beats Keiji Mutoh in the G1 Final

Bret Hart beat Owen Hart in an absolutely classic cage match in the WWF SummerSlam main event … The Undertaker returned from a 7 month (televised) absence and beat The Undertaker … Davey Boy Smith returned to the WWF after being fired in late 1992 … Razor Ramon won the Intercontinental title from Diesel at SS … Diesel & Shawn Michaels won the Tag Titles from the Headshrinkers two nights before SummerSlam leading to one of the most pointless opening matches in PPV history … Ric Flair beat Hulk Hogan at Clash 28 – but only by count-out … Barry Darsow debuted as Blacktop Bully and the Bruise Brothers (Harris brothers) debuted too … Smoky Mountain’s Night Of The Legends show drew a 5,000 crowd as Dirty White Boy defended the SMW Title against Terry Gordy … The Terry Funk/Cactus Jack ring full of chairs incident happened at ECW Hardcore Heaven … Shane Douglas won the NWA Title, threw it down and declared himself the ECW World Heavyweight Champion … The E in ECW no longer stood for "Eastern" and became "Extreme" … Matt Borne debuted in ECW initially as Doink The Clown … Masahiro Chono beat Kensuke Sasaki in the G1 Final … Wrestler, trainer and father of Dean and Joe - Boris Malenko died on August 27th aged 61

Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake beat Randy Savage & Zeus in the main event of WWF SummerSlam … Ultimate Warrior regained the Intercontinental title from Rick Rude … Dusty Rhodes made his WWF PPV debut … Randy Savage became the “Macho King” at a TV taping … Ric Flair became NWA head booker

August 2004

 

Randy Orton beat C**** B***** to become the youngest WWE Champion in history at SummerSlam … 

He didn't. WWE has tried to retrofit that, I think, but Orton won the world title that night. Lesnar's still the youngest WWE champion ever. Orton's about fifth or sixth.

August 2006 Bryan Danielson defeated Nigel McGuinness in Liverpool to unify the ROH World and Pure titles.

 

As awful as the booking was for the Orton/HHH fued I did enjoy the post Summerslam celebration with the thumbs down deal, especially in hindsight as it plays into the brilliant HHH-Batista fued
